Volaris and Alaska Airlines are adding new nonstop links between U.S. airports and Mexico, expanding access to Guadalajara and Loreto for fall and winter travel. Volaris’ expansion centers on five routes from Guadalajara, while Alaska is adding a seasonal connection from San Diego to Loreto.
According to Volaris’ September 10 announcement, flights connecting Guadalajara with Atlanta and Washington Dulles will begin October 1, earlier than the previously planned December launches. Service to Boston, Raleigh-Durham and Nashville is scheduled to begin from October 15. Travelers should check the operating calendar for their specific airport and direction before booking.
Volaris says the expansion will strengthen Guadalajara’s position as its leading hub, with more than 65 destinations and over 100 daily flights. The additional routes give travelers more direct access to western Mexico and opportunities to connect through the airline’s wider network.
Airport officials highlighted benefits beyond vacations. Raleigh-Durham’s airport authority said the Guadalajara link would support business connections and make visits to family and friends easier. Nashville’s airport authority described the service as an important addition to its international network, with access to a major Mexican cultural and economic center.
Separately, Alaska Airlines plans twice-weekly seasonal flights between San Diego and Loreto beginning December 19 and continuing through April. Travel Weekly reports that it will be the only nonstop service on the route. The operating season overlaps with whale-watching season, adding a direct option for travelers planning a winter visit.
The two expansions serve different travel needs: Volaris is broadening connections through a major hub, while Alaska is adding a limited seasonal route. For passengers, the practical benefit is more nonstop choice, although the twice-weekly Loreto schedule will require planning arrival and departure dates around available flights.
