flydubai plans to introduce free Starlink Wi-Fi on its first aircraft in 2026, with the rollout expected to extend across its fleet by the end of 2027. The update sets out the next stage of a connectivity partnership announced with SpaceX at the Dubai Airshow in November 2025.
The Dubai-based airline intends to offer high-speed, low-latency internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming and other real-time services. For passengers, the planned upgrade would make onboard connectivity more useful for work and entertainment while removing a separate charge for access.
Chief Executive Ghaith Al Ghaith confirmed the 2026 introduction during a media roundtable at Arabian Travel Market. Its September 17 update places completion at the end of 2027. The airline’s original announcement had outlined installations for 100 Boeing 737 aircraft and an ambition to equip the majority of its fleet during 2026.
Those timelines describe different stages of the program. The partnership covers the fleet, but passengers should not assume every flight already offers Starlink. Neither supplied announcement identifies the first equipped aircraft, its inaugural passenger service or a route-by-route installation schedule.
Free Connectivity Adds to the Onboard Upgrade
Starlink uses satellites in low Earth orbit and an antenna mounted on the aircraft to provide broadband connectivity. flydubai says the system will allow passengers to use HD streaming and real-time digital services simultaneously, with the intended experience extending from takeoff to landing.
The airline also lists video calls among the technology’s capabilities. That describes what the connection can support, rather than a published onboard policy governing calls. The announcements do not specify passenger speed guarantees or explain how access will be presented on individual flights.
The investment follows flydubai’s move to introduce complimentary Economy Class meals and entertainment, adding another service to its broader passenger experience. Together, the initiatives show the airline placing greater emphasis on what travelers can use onboard alongside its expanding route network.
There is an operational dimension, too. In the original announcement, Senior Vice President of Inflight Operations Daniel Kerrison said faster connectivity would give crew access to real-time information, making the system relevant to service delivery as well as passenger devices.
For travelers booking during the installation period, the key distinction is between the promise of fleet-wide coverage and availability on a particular aircraft. Free Starlink is the stated destination for the program; a consistent experience across all flights will depend on completing the rollout.
