Marriott International is adding Reset Hotel near Joshua Tree National Park to its Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy, expanding a portfolio created for travelers who want nature-focused stays without giving up hotel-style comfort.
The 65-room property sits on 180 acres of desert landscape in Twentynine Palms, California, close to the park’s north entrance. Reset is the first new brand to join Outdoor Collection since Marriott launched the platform in 2025, following Postcard Cabins and Trailborn.
Reset was designed to connect guests with the high desert. Rooms feature natural materials, broad landscape views and private patios equipped with fire pits, daybeds and stargazing platforms. The low-density layout gives the hotel a different feel from a conventional resort near a national park.
The addition strengthens Marriott’s position in outdoor hospitality. Travelers increasingly want access to hiking, wildlife and remote landscapes while still expecting comfortable beds, private bathrooms, wellness facilities and loyalty benefits.
Why Reset Fits Marriott’s Outdoor Strategy
Shared amenities at Reset include outdoor soaking tubs, communal fire pits, a saltwater pool, a jacuzzi, a sauna and a cold plunge. These facilities position the property as both a base for exploring Joshua Tree and a wellness retreat where guests can spend time on-site.
Stargazing is central to the experience. Reset uses Celestron telescopes and plans astronomy programming with former NASA and Jet Propulsion Laboratory astronomers. Southern California’s desert skies provide the setting for guided events, while every room includes an outdoor viewing platform.
The property also hosts creative residencies and design-focused programming. Marriott is therefore selling more than proximity to a national park. It is packaging the surrounding landscape through wellness, astronomy and cultural experiences that make the hotel part of the destination rather than simply a place to sleep.
Reset co-founder Shannon Ching said joining Marriott will give the independent hotel access to a wider international audience while preserving its original identity and connection to the desert.
Hotel Groups Are Racing Into Nature Travel
Marriott created Outdoor Collection after acquiring Postcard Cabins and forming a strategic partnership with Trailborn in late 2024. Those deals brought approximately 1,200 cabins and several hotels near major U.S. leisure destinations into Marriott’s system.
Reset broadens that strategy by adding a purpose-built desert hotel rather than another cabin network or established resort brand. It is also the first hotel constructed from the ground up in Twentynine Palms in more than 15 years.
Competition is growing. Hilton is expanding its partnership with luxury glamping company AutoCamp, while BWH Hotels has introduced its own collection of upscale outdoor accommodations. Major loyalty groups increasingly see national parks and rural destinations as opportunities to attract travelers who might previously have booked independent cabins, campsites or vacation rentals.
For guests, joining Marriott Bonvoy adds familiar booking, points and loyalty benefits to an independent desert retreat. For Reset, the partnership brings global distribution without requiring the hotel to abandon the design and programming that differentiate it.
The Joshua Tree addition shows how large hotel companies are redefining outdoor travel. The next generation of national park accommodations is not necessarily about roughing it. It is about combining landscape, design and wellness with the predictability of a major hospitality platform.
