Key Notes
- The multi-year agreement covers hotel development in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
- The first announced project is a 284-room Hilton at Scanport near Copenhagen Airport, expected in 2029.
- New Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends benefits will be detailed later, with no launch date announced.
Hilton and Scandic Hotels Group have signed a development agreement covering Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, with a new hotel near Copenhagen Airport named as the first project. The companies also plan benefits for Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends members, although the details are still to come.
The multi-year partnership brings Hilton’s brands together with Scandic’s regional operating network. It focuses on individual development opportunities, rather than a wholesale conversion of Scandic’s existing hotels. For travelers, the practical changes will depend on which properties are signed and when the membership benefits become available.
Copenhagen Airport Is the First Project
A 284-room Hilton Hotels & Resorts property is planned at Scanport, adjacent to Copenhagen Airport, with opening expected in 2029. Scandic will operate it as a Hilton franchise. Construction is to begin once the remaining conditions have been met, so the opening remains a future target.
Plans include a restaurant and bar, meeting and event space, wellness facilities, a gym and an executive lounge looking over the Öresund Strait.
What Happens to Loyalty Benefits?
The companies say they will announce the new membership benefits later. Until then, travelers should use each program’s existing rules when deciding where and how to book. The announcement does not set out a points-transfer arrangement, reciprocal status benefits or a launch date.
Under the current Scandic Friends terms, membership is free and points and qualifying nights can be earned from registration. Most bookings made through Scandic’s own channels qualify, while exceptions include certain special rates and third-party booking services. Partner benefits have their own conditions.
That makes the booking channel worth checking alongside the room price. A future partnership benefit should not be included in today’s travel budget until its eligibility and start date have been published.
A Partnership Already Operating in Helsinki
The companies’ existing relationship spans more than two decades. Scandic currently operates three Hilton-branded hotels in Helsinki: Hilton Helsinki Airport, Hilton Helsinki Strand and Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa. A phased refurbishment is also planned for the airport property.
For travelers needing accommodation now, Hilton Helsinki Airport is connected to the terminal by a partly covered walkway. Its current amenities include a restaurant, sauna, fitness center, meeting rooms and an executive lounge. The Copenhagen project would add another airport-area option once it opens.
What the Agreement Means for Nordic Trips
The deal establishes a framework for expansion across four countries, but the announcement names one new hotel. It does not yet provide a wider opening schedule for Sweden, Norway or Finland. Travelers planning a near-term trip should therefore compare the hotels already operating in their destination.
We have also covered Hilton’s Mexico resort changes, another example of how the group is expanding its accommodation offering. In the Nordics, the next details to watch are further hotel signings and the promised loyalty benefits.
