Key Notes

  • Starlink installations on easyJet’s A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft begin in the first half of 2027.
  • The rollout is expected to finish by early 2028, while passenger pricing remains unannounced.
  • easyJet joins Wizz Air in adopting Starlink as Ryanair maintains a different view of the economics.

easyJet will introduce onboard Wi-Fi for the first time through a deal with SpaceX’s Starlink, adding another major European budget airline to the satellite-internet rollout. Installations are due to begin in the first half of 2027 and finish by early 2028.

The announced rollout covers Airbus A320, A320neo and A321neo aircraft. Passengers will be able to connect their own devices for browsing, streaming and gaming. The airline has not announced passenger pricing or confirmed that access will be free.

What Passengers Can Expect From 2027

The practical change is the ability to get online during a short-haul flight without relying entirely on downloaded entertainment. easyJet also sees the connection supporting flight-status checks and destination information, with seat-based food and drink ordering a potential later application.

For now, travelers should treat this as a phased introduction rather than a feature guaranteed on every booking. The announcement names the A320 and A321 variants above but does not list the smaller A319. It also gives no first route or individual aircraft schedule.

Three details will matter when choosing a flight:

  • Availability: check whether the aircraft operating your departure has actually been equipped.
  • Access: wait for the airline’s Wi-Fi prices, sign-in requirements and any fare-bundle inclusions.
  • Backup: keep essential documents and entertainment downloaded until you know what your flight offers.

Why the Deal Puts Ryanair’s Position in Focus

easyJet’s decision follows Wizz Air’s commitment to introduce Starlink in 2027. Together, the announcements suggest high-speed connectivity is becoming a more visible point of competition between European low-cost carriers.

Ryanair has taken a different view. Chief executive Michael O’Leary rejected the system in January, citing antenna-related fuel costs and doubt that enough passengers would pay for Wi-Fi on short flights. Those were Ryanair’s commercial judgments, not a verdict that satellite connectivity cannot work for budget airlines.

easyJet itself had expressed reservations earlier in the year. In January, chief executive Kenton Jarvis said the economics were challenging, while praising the product and continuing talks with providers. The new agreement signals a change in its investment decision, although the financial terms remain undisclosed.

Will Wi-Fi Change Which Airline Travelers Choose?

Connectivity could help easyJet compete for passengers who value staying in touch or getting work done. Its effect on bookings will depend on the price, reliability and availability of the service, alongside the fare, timetable and airport convenience.

There is already a useful comparison across the Atlantic: we recently covered United’s experience of attracting customers through Starlink. That does not establish how European travelers will respond, but it shows why airlines increasingly see Wi-Fi as part of the reason to choose them.

The next milestone for easyJet is the first equipped aircraft entering service. Until the airline publishes access terms and flight-level availability, the confirmed news is the rollout timetable; the cost to passengers remains an open question.
