ASTA Sets Booking Dates for 2027 River Cruise Expo in Vienna
Booking for ship accommodations and familiarization trips opens in stages from September 28, with separate fees and no wait list once inventory sells out.
The American Society of Travel Advisors has announced a staggered booking schedule for ship accommodations and familiarization trips at the 2027 ASTA River Cruise Expo, taking place March 10-14 in Vienna, Austria. Confirmed registrants can preview the available options now, but reservations will open on different dates according to admission category.
VIP Admission attendees receive first access on September 28, 2026, at 1 p.m. Eastern Time. General Admission PLUS+ booking follows on October 1 at 1 p.m. Eastern, with General Admission opening on October 6 at the same time. Selections in the Attendee Portal close on October 26.
A Know Before You Book webinar is scheduled for September 24 at 2 p.m. Eastern. The preview period gives advisors time to compare ship stays and additional sailings before their booking window opens, rather than treating the release of accommodation details as immediate access to reservations.
ASTA says accommodations and pre- and post-Expo familiarization trips, commonly called FAMs, will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be no wait list once inventory is exhausted. The association also reports limited remaining Expo registration availability.
Neither ship accommodations nor FAM opportunities are included in the registration fee. Both require separate payment, and attendees sharing a cabin should designate one person to complete the booking. ASTA is not arranging a hotel room block for the event, so advisors choosing a hotel must organize that stay independently.
The ship accommodation lineup includes AmaBella, Avalon Illumination, Riverside Debussy, Scenic Jasper, Tauck’s MS Savor, Uniworld’s SS Maria Theresa and VIVA TWO, among others. Staying aboard gives advisors an opportunity to assess the onboard experience alongside scheduled inspections and educational sessions, helping them make more informed recommendations to their clients.
Examples of additional sailings include a five-night pre-Expo cruise from Vilshofen to Vienna aboard MS Savor and a seven-night voyage from Vienna to Budapest aboard Avalon Illumination. These extensions offer more time to evaluate a river cruise beyond a brief ship visit.
The event combines product inspections, onboard stays, education and direct contact with river cruise suppliers. That firsthand knowledge remains relevant as operators expand their offerings, including Uniworld’s plans for three additional river ships in 2028.
For participating advisors, the immediate task is to separate three decisions: Expo registration, accommodation during the event and any additional FAM sailing. With different booking priorities, separate charges and no wait list, preparing those choices before the applicable opening date will be especially important.
