Uniworld Boutique River Cruises is preparing one of the biggest fleet expansions in its history, with three new river ships scheduled to debut in 2028. The luxury river cruise line will introduce S.S. Helen, S.S. Clara and Mekong Mystique, bringing its global fleet to 22 ships.
The expansion will strengthen Uniworld’s presence across three major river cruise regions. S.S. Helen will sail the Danube, S.S. Clara will join the Rhine fleet and Mekong Mystique will operate in Southeast Asia on the Mekong River. Bookings for the 2028 season have already opened, giving travelers and advisors an early look at how the brand is planning its next phase of growth.
The timing is significant. River cruising has been benefiting from demand for slower, more immersive travel, especially among luxury guests who want culture, design, comfort and destination access in one package. Uniworld is leaning into that trend by making each new vessel heavily tied to the art, history and identity of the region where it will sail.

She said each new ship gives the company a chance to raise the bar for luxury river cruising while creating deeper connections between guests and the destinations they visit.
Three Ships, Three Very Different River Stories
S.S. Helen will be named after the legendary Helen of Troy and will draw inspiration from classical European antiquity and Greek cultural influence across the Danube region. Rather than recreating a traditional Greek theme, the ship is expected to reflect Mediterranean elegance, natural inspiration, timeless architecture and the Greek concept of philoxenia, or warm hospitality.
The ship will sail Danube itineraries including the 15-day Danube Grandeur, which is expected to visit destinations across six countries. Featured stops include major European cities such as Budapest, Vienna, Bratislava, Belgrade and Nuremberg, along with smaller river communities and historic landscapes.
S.S. Clara will sail the Rhine and pay tribute to Clara Peeters, the 17th-century Flemish still-life painter associated with the Dutch Golden Age. The vessel’s interiors will feature vibrant florals, refined textures and European craftsmanship inspired by Peeters’ detailed paintings and the natural beauty of the Rhine region.
The ship will debut on Holland & Belgium at Tulip Time, a spring itinerary through the Netherlands and Belgium. That launch is a smart fit for a vessel shaped around floral design, art history and seasonal scenery.
Mekong Mystique will expand Uniworld’s Southeast Asia capacity alongside Mekong Jewel. The ship will take design cues from classic Indochine style, combining European architectural details with natural materials to reflect Vietnam and Cambodia. It will sail exclusively on Timeless Wonders of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong, connecting guests with floating markets, temples, river communities and centuries-old traditions.
The three-ship expansion suggests Uniworld is betting that luxury river cruise guests want more than new hardware. They want vessels that feel rooted in place. If the 2028 launches deliver on that promise, Uniworld’s next growth phase could make regional storytelling just as important as suite design or onboard service.
