United Airlines has unveiled its new Terminal B North Concourse at Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, with passenger access beginning October 22. The opening includes a 54,000-square-foot United Club with seating for 800 travelers, which United describes as the largest airline club in the Americas.
The three-level, 765,000-square-foot concourse has 22 mainline gates, replacing facilities dating to 1969. It is a major part of the Terminal B transformation, a wider redevelopment intended to give the airline room for larger aircraft and improve the passenger journey through its Houston hub.
What Is Inside the New United Club?
The mezzanine-level lounge has airfield views and a 1,350-square-foot outdoor terrace. Inside are two full-service bars, two buffet stations and 11 private phone rooms, alongside Wi-Fi and power outlets for travelers who need to work between flights.
The new location gives passengers a substantial sit-down option alongside United Club Fly, the grab-and-go lounge in Terminal B South. United’s IAH lounge network also includes its separate Polaris lounge.
Who Can Use the Lounge?
Entry depends on eligibility, rather than simply departing from the new concourse. United’s access rules cover Club members, eligible premium-cabin passengers, qualifying Star Alliance Gold travelers and one-time passholders. Membership holders need a same-day boarding pass on United, a Star Alliance airline or a contracted partner-operated flight.
One-time passes admit one person and are subject to availability. Passholders can generally enter only within three hours of scheduled departure, although that limit does not apply during a connection. Guest allowances differ by membership and access type, so check the rule that applies to your own ticket or membership before bringing companions.
The Club and Polaris lounge are different products with different eligibility rules. Having access to one should not be treated as confirmation that you can enter the other.
More Space Beyond the Lounge
The new concourse’s gate areas are designed for narrow-body mainline aircraft, and every United flight departing from Terminal B North will board through a jet bridge. The larger redevelopment also includes baggage-handling improvements and changes to airport access.
Planned dining choices include Houston names such as Blood Bros. BBQ, Pizaro’s Pizza and Katz Coffee. Families will find a soft play area, while a separate sensory room offers a quieter setting for travelers who need a break from the airport environment.
What to Check Before a Houston Flight
The North Concourse opening is one stage of the broader Terminal B project. Check the United app and your flight’s instructions for the correct check-in location, security route and gate, rather than assuming the new concourse means every part of the terminal is finished.
For a connection, allow time to reach the lounge and return to your gate. An 800-seat facility adds room to wait, but it does not change boarding deadlines or guarantee that a one-time pass will be accepted.
We have also covered American Airlines’ plans for its largest Admirals Club in Charlotte. Houston’s opening brings another major lounge investment to a busy US connecting hub, with access conditions still central to deciding whether you can use it.
