Key Notes

  • American Express Cruise & Yacht Collection launches online October 22 with 20 participating brands.
  • Eligible cardmembers retain onboard credit and amenities on qualifying cruises of at least five nights.
  • The refresh retains existing benefits, with US card eligibility and Amex Travel booking conditions applying.

American Express Travel is relaunching its cruise program as the American Express Cruise & Yacht Collection on October 22, giving its premium sailing portfolio a new identity as hotel-inspired yachts become a bigger part of the market. The collection brings together 20 cruise lines and yacht brands, with benefits for eligible Platinum and Centurion cardmembers.

The refresh changes how the program is presented rather than introducing a new set of perks. Amex says participating partners and cardmember benefits remain consistent, an important distinction for travelers who already know the longstanding Cruise Privileges program.

A Broader Identity for Luxury Travel at Sea

The portfolio includes The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection, Orient Express Sailing Yachts and Aman at Sea, alongside newer cruise partners Virgin Voyages and Explora Journeys. The mix gives the collection a range of styles, from established cruise experiences to smaller vessels shaped around the service and design associated with luxury hotels.

That positioning follows a shift we explored in our coverage of hotel-branded voyages: travelers are increasingly being offered familiar hospitality names as a way into cruising. For Amex, putting yachts in the program’s name makes that part of its offering more visible without requiring an entirely separate booking program.

Onboard Credits and 2x Points Continue

The core offer remains $100 to $300 in onboard credit per stateroom, plus an additional amenity that varies by participating line, on eligible voyages lasting at least five nights. Amex’s cruise offers page sets out the headline benefits and separate promotions. The credit is attached to the stateroom, so two eligible travelers sharing a cabin should not assume they each receive the advertised amount.

Eligible bookings also earn 2x Membership Rewards points. The practical value comes from comparing the complete fare and benefits available for the same sailing and cabin category. A credit can add useful spending power onboard, but it is not the same thing as a reduction in the price paid for the cruise.

Eligibility Matters More Than the New Name

The published benefit terms cover eligible U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum and Centurion accounts, with U.S. residency requirements. The Delta SkyMiles Platinum Card is excluded. New qualifying reservations must be for at least five nights with double occupancy and made through Amex Travel, with the eligible cardmember traveling.

Those terms also provide an additional $200 onboard credit for Centurion members. Ship, fare and stateroom exclusions can apply, and benefits cannot automatically be combined with every other promotion. Unused onboard credit is non-refundable and cannot be redeemed for cash.

The points rules make the booking channel important: payments made directly to a cruise line outside Amex Travel do not qualify for the additional Membership Rewards point. Before reserving, travelers can review the participating providers and confirm the specific sailing’s credit, amenity and payment requirements.

For existing eligible cardmembers planning a longer cruise or yacht vacation, the relaunch offers a clearer way to browse an established benefit. The useful question is which combination of ship, fare and included extras suits the trip, with the final booking terms checked before committing.
