JW Marriott has opened its new Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp in Kenya, giving luxury safari travelers another high-end option in one of East Africa’s most important conservation landscapes. The all-inclusive camp sits inside Solio Game Reserve in Laikipia County, a 45,000-acre private conservancy known for protecting one of Africa’s largest populations of black and white rhinos.
The property marks JW Marriott’s second safari lodge in Kenya, following the JW Marriott Masai Mara Lodge, which opened in 2023. This new camp has a more rhino-focused identity, with wildlife, wellness and conservation woven directly into the guest experience. It is also notable for Marriott Bonvoy members because award stays can be booked with points, which is still unusual in the luxury safari market.
The camp is located between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, creating a setting defined by open savannah, mountain views and nearby watering holes. Access is designed for high-end safari travelers, with transfers from Nanyuki Airstrip included in rates and private charter flights available to Solio Ranch Airstrip.
Tented Suites With Plunge Pools and Savannah Views
JW Marriott Mount Kenya Rhino Reserve Safari Camp features 19 tented suites, including one two-bedroom suite for families or groups. Each accommodation is designed to blur the line between indoor comfort and outdoor landscape, with private decks, plunge pools, indoor soaking tubs and roll-up canvas walls.
The interiors use woven textiles, hand-carved wood, local artwork and earthy tones that reference Kenyan craft and the surrounding reserve. The design aims for a softer style of luxury, where the main attraction is not excess but proximity to the landscape.
Daily rates start at $1,499 per person, per night on an all-inclusive basis. That includes accommodations, meals and beverages, twice-daily shared game drives, guided walking and cycling safaris, transfers from Nanyuki Airstrip and selected activities. The lowest award bookings currently start at 212,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.
Dining is also part of the positioning. Mavuno, the signature restaurant, offers seasonal menus influenced by Kenyan flavors and open-fire cooking, while Ember Bar and Lounge serves drinks and shared plates around the fire. Guests can also book bush breakfasts, dinners under the stars and private dining experiences. An on-site garden supplies produce for the kitchen.
Conservation Turns the Safari Into More Than a Stay
Solio Game Reserve is central to the camp’s appeal. Guests can join daytime and nighttime game drives, walking safaris, cycling excursions and birding experiences, with the chance to see rhinos, lions, leopards, zebras and more than 300 recorded bird species. The camp also provides Canon photography equipment and access to resident photographers, helping guests capture wildlife more seriously.
One of the most meaningful experiences is a visit to the Solio Rhino Orphanage, where orphaned rhino calves and other animals are rehabilitated before being released back into the reserve. That gives travelers a clearer link between luxury safari spending and conservation work on the ground.
Wellness completes the offer. The Spa by JW includes treatments inspired by the environment, including a half-day Solio Passage experience with volcanic stone therapies and a glacial hydrotherapy soak. The property also has an outdoor pool, fitness center, fire pit, library and games room.
The camp arrives as luxury safari travel continues to evolve. Guests increasingly expect wildlife, comfort, wellness, conservation and loyalty benefits in one trip. JW Marriott’s new Kenya camp brings all of those pieces together, with rhinos at the heart of the story.
