Hotels.com Launches Business Travel Mode With Booking Controls and Personal Rewards
Hotels.com has launched a new business travel mode that lets travelers save work-trip preferences, rebook preferred hotels faster and earn rewards from eligible business stays.
Hotels.com is making a more direct push into business travel with a new booking experience designed for employees who arrange their own work trips. The platform has launched a dedicated business travel mode across its website and app, combining saved preferences, flexible booking options, faster repeat reservations and rewards within the same account travelers already use for leisure trips.
The system allows users to set work-specific preferences including a maximum nightly rate, complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, gym access, star ratings, guest ratings and fully refundable rates. Once business mode is activated, Hotels.com applies those preferences to search results, reducing the need to rebuild filters every time a traveler books a work trip.
For repeat travelers, Quick Rebook lets users reserve a preferred hotel again in only a few steps. Hotels.com is also emphasizing flexibility, allowing users to search specifically for refundable stays, although individual cancellation deadlines and policies continue to depend on the property and selected rate.
A central part of the proposition is the ability to earn rewards from eligible business stays and later use them for personal travel. Through Hotels.com’s Save Your Way program, members can choose between taking an eligible discount when booking or converting that value into rewards for a future trip. Business and leisure bookings remain under one Hotels.com account, allowing travelers to switch between the two modes without maintaining separate profiles.
The company is targeting travelers who do not necessarily use traditional corporate booking systems but still want some of the controls associated with managed travel programs. That could include employees at smaller companies, independent professionals and workers whose employers allow them to arrange accommodation directly within defined budget limits.
Hotels.com launched the product alongside research indicating that work travel has continued to recover. In a July survey of 2,000 U.S. adults who had traveled for business during the previous three years, 37% said they now travel for work more frequently than before the pandemic.
Respondents reported spending an average of 10 hotel nights per year on business travel, with an average hotel budget of $236 per night. Technology professionals had a higher average budget of $264 per night.
The survey also suggests that practical benefits matter more than luxury extras for many business travelers. Complimentary breakfast was the most valued hotel feature, selected by 49% of respondents, followed by loyalty rewards at 39% and early check-in or late check-out at 37%.
By combining those preferences with consumer-style rewards, Hotels.com is positioning itself between traditional leisure booking platforms and more structured corporate travel tools. The strategy could help Expedia Group capture a larger share of self-managed business travel while keeping work and personal bookings inside the same loyalty ecosystem.
