Expedia Group is rolling out more than 30 new and enhanced features across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, combining AI-assisted trip planning and hotel comparisons with changes to booking, payments and customer support. The Fall 2026 release aims to handle more of the decisions that sit between choosing a destination and arriving at a property.
The company’s launch announcement covers both new tools and upgrades to existing services. Availability varies by feature, country and device, with several AI experiences initially focused on the United States.
Expedia Adds an Activity Planner and Property Answers
Expedia’s conversational Activity Planner helps travelers find things to do after booking a trip. It offers activities and tours alongside restaurant suggestions, local points of interest and ideas such as walks, with options to save favorites and build a daily itinerary.
Property Expert handles more specific questions about accommodation, drawing on property information, guest reviews and, where applicable, the traveler’s reservation. That makes it useful for checking what a stay offers before booking or clarifying details afterward.
These are consumer-facing additions to a broader AI strategy. We previously covered Expedia’s partner AI toolkit, which focuses on travel distribution and tools for other businesses.
Hotels.com Makes Shortlists Easier to Compare
Hotels.com’s enhanced AI Compare brings shortlisted properties together and provides plain-language comparisons based on the traveler’s priorities. Location, amenities, price and policy details are among the factors users can explore, with follow-up questions helping clarify the differences.
The brand is also adapting its homepage to work and leisure trips, surfacing steps such as managing a reservation, extending a stay or finding receipts. Its existing business travel mode remains part of that wider effort to organize work trips while preserving eligible personal rewards.
Vrbo Focuses on Group Search and Support
Vrbo’s Natural Language Search lets a group organizer describe the desired rental in ordinary language, rather than assemble the entire request through filters. The aim is to match combinations of needs, such as a beach location, a suitable kitchen and outdoor gathering space.
The rental platform is also introducing a conversational voice-support experience that can handle common requests and pass the call to a human agent with context. An enhanced arrival experience brings information such as door codes, directions, check-in times and house rules together.
Reserve Now, Pay Later Is Still Coming to Vrbo
Vrbo’s announced payment option will allow travelers to reserve eligible homes with $0 due at booking by putting a credit card on file. The release describes it as coming soon, rather than an option already available for every rental.
For group planners, the proposed benefit is more time to confirm who is coming and collect contributions. The payment schedule and terms still need to be checked for the particular reservation; paying later does not change the price or cancellation conditions automatically.
Other Updates Go Beyond AI
Expedia’s flexible packages let travelers use different dates for flights, accommodation and rental cars. Multi-room booking also allows different room types at the same hotel to be paid for together and managed in one itinerary.
The release includes a delayed-flight benefit for eligible Gold and Platinum One Key members: complimentary lounge access or OneKeyCash when a qualifying flight is delayed at least 90 minutes. It can extend to up to nine other travelers in the party, with eligibility conditions and a December 31, 2027 booking cutoff.
Where the New Tools Are Available
The release FAQ lists Activity Planner, Property Expert and Hotels.com AI Compare for U.S. web and app experiences. Natural-language search on Hotels.com and Vrbo is described for U.S. English. The product hub also notes that some features are not yet available in every country or on every device.
For travelers, the practical change is a more connected planning process: ask a question, narrow a shortlist and organize more of the trip within the booking platform. The specific tools available in an account, and the terms attached to a booking, remain the details to check before relying on a newly announced feature.
