Delta Air Lines will add nonstop flights from Boston to Venice and Detroit to Athens in 2027, giving travelers two new options for reaching popular European vacation destinations. The airline has announced the routes alongside a longer transatlantic season, with selected services returning earlier in spring or continuing beyond the summer rush.
The additions join previously announced Austin-Paris service and concentrate on connecting more departure cities with destinations Delta already serves. For travelers, that means more opportunities to avoid an extra connection, as well as additional dates to consider outside the busiest vacation months.
Boston Adds Venice and More Milan Flights
Nonstop service between Boston and Venice will begin May 7, 2027, operating four times weekly through October 29. Delta will use an Airbus A330-300 with Delta One, Delta Premium Select, Delta Comfort and Delta Main.
Boston will become Delta’s third U.S. gateway to Venice. The airline says the route will offer connections to nearly 20 domestic destinations through its hub, extending its usefulness beyond travelers who live near the departure airport.
Venice will be Delta’s 13th unique long-haul destination from Boston during the peak summer season and its 12th in continental Europe. The carrier will also increase Boston service to Milan to daily in 2027, adding flexibility for travelers building an itinerary around multiple cities. Visitors should also watch Venice’s proposed changes to its day-tripper fee, which remain separate from the airline schedule.
Detroit Gains Its First Nonstop Athens Link
Delta’s Detroit-Athens service will launch June 8, 2027, with three weekly flights through October 28. An Airbus A330-200 will operate the route, offering the same four cabin products as the new Venice service.
According to Wayne County Airport Authority, this will be Detroit’s first nonstop connection to Athens. The route will make Detroit Delta’s fourth U.S. gateway to the Greek capital, with connections available to more than 40 domestic destinations.
Athens will become the airline’s 12th unique long-haul destination from Detroit during peak summer and its seventh in continental Europe. Both new routes run less than daily, so departure dates will matter when coordinating hotel stays, onward transportation and the return journey.
Austin-Paris and an Earlier Start to Spring
Delta’s daily seasonal service from Austin to Paris begins March 27, 2027. Operated by an Airbus A330-900neo, it will be Austin’s first nonstop Paris connection, with onward travel available through Delta’s airline partnerships.
The wider schedule also brings forward seasonal flights to Rome. Service from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit will begin in early March, followed by Seattle in April. Detroit-Rome will operate daily when it resumes, giving travelers more departure choices at the start of the season.
Delta network planning executive Jeff Arinder said the changes respond to demand for greater flexibility across spring, summer and fall. An earlier flight schedule does not guarantee lower fares, but it gives travelers more dates to compare when planning a European trip.
