Delta Air Lines plans to launch New Distribution Capability content before the end of 2026, giving travel agencies new ways to shop, book and service flights while retaining access to existing booking channels. The initial release will cover U.S. points of sale, with broader functionality and international expansion to follow.

The airline outlined the rollout at its Delta Business Showcase, including distribution through Sabre, Travelport and Amadeus, plus selected direct connections. Delta is also working with partners including American Express Global Business Travel to integrate its NDC technology into selected corporate booking tools.

NDC is a distribution standard that allows airlines to present richer offers, including ancillary services and bundled products, through agency channels. For business travelers, its value depends on whether those offers can be booked and managed within the systems their employers and travel advisors already use.

At launch, agencies will be able to shop for flights, issue tickets immediately or later, and cancel both ticketed and unticketed orders. The release will also support private fares, ARC settlement, order change notifications and corporate priority benefits. Voluntary changes will initially be supported for wholly unused tickets, an important distinction for advisors assessing which reservations they can service.

Delta’s approach gives agencies room to decide when to adopt the technology. Patrick Crowley, director of sales and distribution innovation, said organizations can continue using the channels and workflows that support their businesses today while evaluating NDC. The airline first announced plans to test an NDC solution in April 2024.

That flexibility addresses a longstanding concern among travel advisors: newer distribution tools have not always matched the servicing capabilities of established systems. Delta’s launch comes as other carriers, including Southwest Airlines, expand NDC booking options. Delta plans quarterly updates to improve servicing and add capabilities based on customer and partner feedback.

The showcase also outlined changes beyond booking technology. Delta’s Global Sales Solutions team is introducing proactive servicing that includes weekly operational forecasts, targeted alerts and greater visibility into traveler impacts. These tools are intended to give agencies earlier notice of potential disruptions and more information to support affected customers.

A redesigned agency-focused Delta Business site is scheduled for 2027, with expanded self-service, user permissions, disruption management and operational information in one interface. Delta is also exploring agentic artificial intelligence as part of its longer-term strategy. Those ambitions remain separate from the initial NDC release, whose immediate focus is establishing core booking and servicing functions before expanding the system.
