The Federal Aviation Administration has certified the Boeing 737 MAX 10, clearing the largest member of the MAX family for deliveries after years of delays. Boeing announced the approval on October 20 and said handovers would begin in the coming months.
The aircraft can carry up to 230 passengers, although Boeing lists 185–210 seats for a typical two-class configuration. Its published range is 3,100 nautical miles. Boeing says it has 1,555 orders from more than 30 customers, making the model a substantial part of its future narrowbody deliveries.
Certification followed nearly 1,000 test flights, more than 2,000 flight hours and another 1,000 hours of ground testing, according to Boeing. The aircraft includes an enhanced angle-of-attack system. The decision follows the smaller MAX 7 approval earlier this year.
Alaska Airlines welcomed the decision and said it expected its first MAX 10 in 2027. Its plans include 12 Aurora lie-flat suites on at least 25 aircraft, with those premium transcontinental services scheduled for 2028, as we detailed in our Aurora coverage.
For travellers, certification removes a major hurdle but does not mean the aircraft is immediately available to book. Delivery dates, cabin layouts and route assignments will determine when passengers encounter the larger jet and which onboard products they can expect.
