Alterra Mountain Company has named Kelly Vohs as its next chief executive, effective October 19, 2026, as its resorts prepare for the winter season. The Denver-based company behind Ikon Pass announced the appointment on October 5, bringing in a leader with experience across hospitality, real estate and technology.
Vohs most recently led SafetyCulture, a frontline operations platform, and previously ran LivCor within Blackstone’s portfolio. His nearly 30-year career also includes hotel leadership roles at the Boca Raton Resort & Club and Waldorf Astoria Chicago, as well as overseeing operations for New York restaurant group BR Guest Hospitality.
The appointment follows the leadership transition announced in March, when Jared Smith said he would step down at the end of the ski season. A board executive committee, including former Alterra CEO Rusty Gregory and ownership representatives, was tasked with managing day-to-day operations while the company searched for a successor.
Vohs arrives as Alterra advances a previously announced investment programme of more than $350 million for winter 2026/27. Projects include additional terrain at Deer Valley, a new beginner learning area at Tremblant, snowmaking improvements and employee housing. These plans predate his appointment and form part of the operating agenda he will inherit.
Alterra’s destinations include Steamboat, Mammoth Mountain and Deer Valley, while the wider Ikon Pass network offers access to more than 70 destinations worldwide.
