JW Marriott has opened its first all-inclusive resort worldwide on Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast. The 415-room JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa overlooks Playa El Jobo in Guanacaste, adding a new option for travelers seeking a beach holiday with dining and activities bundled into the stay.
Marriott announced the opening on October 6, with starting rates of $900 per person, per night, based on double occupancy. That pricing basis matters: at the advertised starting rate, two guests would pay $1,800 for one night, rather than $900 for the room. Actual prices depend on the dates and accommodation selected.
What to Expect From the Rooms
The accommodation range includes terraces, ocean-view options and suites with direct access to swim-out pools. Presidential accommodation adds separate living space, while the resort’s design favors natural materials and a residential feel. Travelers comparing categories should check the view and pool access attached to the exact room they book.
The more exclusive Griffin Club operates within the larger resort. Its accommodation includes tropical-view junior suites, ocean-view master suites and master swim-out suites with separate living and sleeping areas. Marriott also outlines a dedicated lounge, pool and beach area for club guests, plus priority dining reservations. Those privileges should not be assumed to come with an entry-level booking.
Dining, Pools and Wellness
The opening announcement describes 15 dining and bar venues and 17 pools, including an oceanfront infinity pool. The dining lineup spans Costa Rican and international cooking: Casado is a coastal grill, Puerto Limón serves seafood with Caribbean influences, Luciano focuses on Italian dishes and Santos on Mexican cuisine. Japanese options include Namuyaki and Boga.
For guests who prefer less formal meals, the property lists a round-the-clock JW Market and 24-hour room service. Before arrival, check which restaurants require reservations and whether a particular tasting experience or premium menu is included in your chosen package.
Wellness facilities occupy a combined 16,000 square feet, bringing together Mindfulness House, Spa by JW and a fitness center. The spa menu includes massages, facials and hydrotherapy, with appointments required. A spa on site does not make treatments part of the room price; check the cost when reserving an appointment.
The resort also caters to families. Its Family by JW Club offers activities such as nature walks, children’s yoga, art and storytelling. That gives parents another point of comparison beyond the pool and beach: check the ages, supervision arrangements and daily schedule before relying on a club session during your stay.
What the All-Inclusive Rate Covers
Marriott’s booking information says the rate typically covers accommodation, meals and snacks, alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks, entertainment, nonmotorized water sports and children’s activities. It also lists taxes, service fees and gratuities among the usual inclusions.
Extras can include spa treatments, motorized water sports, excursions, laundry, transportation and selected premium services. The practical comparison is the total for your party and plans: enter the correct number of adults and children, then read the package details and cancellation rules before paying. A club-level room and a standard room may offer quite different holidays despite sharing the same all-inclusive label.
Planning the Journey to Playa El Jobo
The resort is in La Cruz, in northern Guanacaste. Marriott lists Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia as its nearer airport option and says it does not provide an airport shuttle. Arrange ground transportation separately and confirm its price, pickup location and return arrangements with the provider.
For a stay centered on the resort, the combination of dining, pools and family activities may simplify daily planning. Travelers hoping to spend much of the holiday on excursions should compare the location with their intended route and budget for transport beyond the property.
We have also covered Tamarind’s reopening in Barbados under Marriott’s Autograph Collection. Costa Elena extends the company’s all-inclusive choices into another luxury brand, while giving Costa Rica-bound travelers a new property to weigh against the region’s established resorts.
