Key Notes

  • American’s first Barcelona, Venezuela service starts January 15, 2027.
  • Miami flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with Embraer 175 aircraft.
  • Barcelona joins Caracas and Maracaibo in American’s Venezuela network.

American Airlines will launch its first service to Barcelona, Venezuela, on January 15, 2027, adding a third Venezuelan destination to its Miami network. The new nonstop route will operate three times a week and give eastern Venezuela a direct link to American’s principal gateway for Latin America.

The destination is Barcelona in Venezuela, airport code BLA. The route announcement sets out Monday, Wednesday and Friday flights from Miami International Airport, or MIA, using Embraer 175 aircraft.

Three Weekly Flights From Miami

American says the aircraft will offer a premium cabin, Wi-Fi and in-seat power. The airline listed October 19 as the ticket-sale date, with reservations through its website and mobile app. No introductory fare was included in the announcement.

Barcelona and nearby Puerto La Cruz are important commercial and industrial centers in eastern Venezuela. The route adds an arrival option beyond Caracas and Maracaibo, while American says its Miami hub will provide one-stop access to more than 100 destinations in North America.

The three-day schedule is worth checking early in the planning process. A Monday, Wednesday or Friday departure may work differently from a daily service when matching onward flights, arranging meetings or choosing the length of a visit. Compare both the outbound and return options before committing to other parts of the trip.

A Third Destination After American’s Venezuela Return

The Barcelona addition follows American’s restoration of U.S.–Venezuela service earlier in 2026. Its first Caracas return flight departed Miami on April 30, ending a seven-year gap. That service was operated by Envoy Air with an Embraer 175.

American first began serving Venezuela in 1987 and suspended its operations there in 2019. We covered the initial return plans in January, when the carrier announced its intention to reconnect the two countries. Barcelona now extends that rebuilding beyond the capital and Maracaibo.

Once the new route starts, American says its Venezuela schedule will total 24 weekly flights. The planned network combines three weekly Barcelona services with twice-daily Miami–Caracas flights and a daily Miami–Maracaibo service.

Check BLA When Searching for Barcelona

For this route, search for Barcelona, Venezuela, or use BLA directly. Barcelona in Spain uses BCN and is a different destination. The airport code is the clearest way to keep the intended city consistent across flight searches, transfers and any connecting reservations.

Travelers connecting through Miami should compare the full itinerary, including connection times, baggage conditions and the fare rules for each journey. The new service provides another way to reach eastern Venezuela, but its January start date and three weekly operating days remain the key details around which to plan.
