United Adds New St. Croix Service as East Coast Network Expands

United Airlines will launch nonstop Newark-St. Croix flights this fall, adding a new Caribbean link while expanding service from its East Coast hubs.

United Adds New St. Croix Service as East Coast Network Expands

United Airlines is expanding its East Coast network with new routes to St. Croix, Los Cabos and Orange County, adding leisure and domestic connectivity from two of its major hubs. The most significant tourism move is the launch of nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, beginning October 31, 2026.

The St. Croix route will operate once weekly on Saturdays using a Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 126 seats, including 12 in business class. United will be the only airline offering nonstop service between St. Croix and the New York City area, creating a direct link between Henry E. Rohlsen Airport and one of the carrier’s most important hubs.

The new service will depart Newark at 9:03 a.m. and arrive in St. Croix at 1:20 p.m. The return flight will leave St. Croix at 2:25 p.m. and arrive in Newark at 6:58 p.m. For travelers in the Northeast, the route creates a simpler path to St. Croix without requiring connections through another U.S. gateway or nearby island.

St. Croix Gains a Direct New York Link

The route is a notable airlift win for St. Croix, where direct access to the New York metropolitan area has long been viewed as important for tourism, residents, business travel and the Virgin Islands diaspora. Newark also gives St. Croix passengers access to United’s broader domestic and international network, potentially improving connectivity beyond the immediate New York and New Jersey market.

United says the new service will bring its Caribbean network from Newark and New York to 23 destinations, more than any other carrier serving the region from the New York City area. The route also complements United’s existing Newark-St. Thomas service, giving travelers more flexibility when planning U.S. Virgin Islands trips or island-hopping itineraries.

For St. Croix, the service arrives at a time when air access remains central to tourism competitiveness. The island has strong cultural, historical and natural assets, but nonstop air service can heavily influence whether travelers view it as an easy vacation option. A direct United link may help expose the destination to more MileagePlus members and other travelers who prefer booking within one airline network.

Market data cited by local reporting showed existing demand between Newark and St. Croix even without nonstop flights. That suggests United is entering a market where travelers were already making the trip through connections, though the limited weekly schedule means the route will initially function as a targeted leisure and visiting-friends-and-relatives service rather than a high-frequency business corridor.

United Builds Out East Coast Leisure Routes

The St. Croix launch is part of a broader East Coast expansion. From Washington Dulles, United will add daily nonstop service to Orange County, California, beginning August 11, 2026. The route gives the Washington area a direct link to John Wayne Airport, a convenient gateway for coastal Orange County, business travel and Southern California leisure trips.

United will also resume Washington Dulles-Los Cabos service on October 25, 2026, with up to four weekly flights. That route restores a connection last served by the airline before 2019 and makes Los Cabos available nonstop from all seven United hubs. The destination remains one of Mexico’s strongest leisure markets for U.S. travelers, driven by beach resorts, luxury hotels and high-end vacation demand.

Together, the three routes show United leaning into markets where premium leisure, diaspora travel and hub connectivity overlap. St. Croix expands Caribbean reach from Newark, Los Cabos strengthens Mexico access from Washington, and Orange County fills a domestic gap from Dulles.

For travelers, the additions mean more nonstop options from the East Coast. For United, they reinforce a network strategy built around using large hubs to connect high-demand leisure destinations with both local passengers and broader connecting traffic.
