Saudia has unveiled its first premium economy cabin, with passengers expected to experience it on newly delivered Boeing 787 aircraft in 2027. The new option will sit between economy and business class as the airline updates its long-haul interiors.
Presented at World Travel Market London 2026, the seat offers a pitch of up to 43 inches, a 15.5-inch entertainment screen, an extendable calf rest and more personal storage. The announcement gives the first outline of the product, while routes and fares remain unannounced.
What the New Seat Offers
Saudia’s announcement emphasizes additional space, comfort and privacy. The calf rest provides support when reclining, while the larger screen and storage areas are intended to make longer journeys more comfortable.
The 43-inch figure describes seat pitch: the distance between corresponding points on seats in successive rows. It does not mean 43 inches of clear legroom, and the usable space also depends on the seat’s structure and the position of the seat ahead.
New Dreamliners First, Retrofits to Follow
The initial 2027 introduction is planned for new Boeing 787 deliveries. Saudia also intends to fit the cabin to selected aircraft already in its Airbus A330, Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 fleets through a phased refurbishment program.
That distinction matters when choosing a flight. The presence of premium economy on one Saudia long-haul aircraft will not mean it is available on every service using the same aircraft family. The airline has not yet published a detailed route or aircraft-by-aircraft rollout schedule.
The Dreamliner investment has a longer history. In March 2023, Boeing announced Saudia’s selection of 39 additional 787s, with options for ten more, covering both the 787-9 and 787-10. That earlier announcement provides fleet context; it does not specify which future flights will carry this new cabin.
Another Step Between Economy and Business
Premium economy gives travelers another cabin to compare when economy feels too restrictive and business class exceeds the budget. The eventual value will depend on the fare difference and the full package of service and benefits attached to the ticket.
It is part of a broader focus on premium cabins. British Airways’ A380 refurbishment, for example, will put 106 Club Suites on the upper deck while also refreshing its premium economy and economy accommodation.
What Still Needs to Be Confirmed
Saudia has not set out launch fares, the first bookable routes or a complete list of premium economy ticket benefits in this announcement. Baggage allowances, lounge access and other ground services should not be assumed from the seat unveiling alone.
For now, 2027 is the expected introduction year rather than a confirmed date for every route. Once bookings open, travelers will be able to compare the actual cabin, fare rules and included services for their chosen departure.
