Key Notes

  • The free assessment takes about ten minutes and scores travel businesses across seven areas of their payment operations.
  • Questions cover processing charges, currency conversion, settlement timing and the cost of paying suppliers.
  • Savings and revenue estimates are indicative, with any subsequent pricing subject to a formal proposal.

Repayd and Axcess Payments Group have launched a free Travel Payments Health Check to help travel businesses see how much they spend accepting customer payments, converting currencies and paying suppliers. The online assessment takes about ten minutes and returns a score out of 100, alongside estimates of potential annual savings.

The tool is aimed at the businesses behind a booking, including tour operators, online travel agencies, destination management companies and accommodation providers. Its central question is how much revenue remains after money has passed through the full payment process.

What the Free Assessment Checks

The health check awards red, amber or green ratings across seven areas: multi-currency pricing, cross-border costs, pricing transparency, currency alignment, payment method fit, cash flow and supplier payouts.

To build that picture, it asks about annual payment volume, average booking value and the time between booking and travel. Further questions cover card processing charges, settlement delays, rolling reserves, chargebacks, the currencies a business receives and the methods it uses to pay suppliers.

The distinction matters because the percentage charged to accept a card payment is only one part of the cost. A company may also pay to convert customer receipts into another currency, then incur a further conversion or transfer charge when settling with a hotel or local operator.

How to Access the Results

Users first enter their name and work email address, then confirm their email using a code. After completing the questionnaire, they can view their results online and receive a copy by email. A discussion with a payments specialist is optional.

The assessment also asks whether customers pay in full, leave a deposit and pay the balance later, or settle on arrival. Those arrangements affect when a travel company receives money relative to when it must meet supplier commitments.

Repayd describes its wider business as merchant accounts for travel, hospitality and aviation. Axcess has separately outlined its existing Repayd partnership, covering acquiring relationships, payment gateways, alternative payment methods and settlement support.

Savings Estimates Need a Closer Look

The results are indicative estimates based on the answers supplied and benchmark rates. They are not a quotation or a guarantee of lower costs, and any subsequent pricing would need to be confirmed in a formal proposal.

The tool also presents possible additional revenue from multi-currency pricing separately from savings. Its explanation says that this revenue can involve a commission paid by the customer when paying in their own currency. Businesses comparing the figures should therefore distinguish between reducing their own costs and charging customers for a currency option.

That makes the assessment a starting point for reviewing statements and contracts. The most useful follow-up is to identify which assumptions match the business’s actual payment mix, supplier currencies and settlement schedule.

We have also covered OnyxPay’s commission platform, which addresses payment tracking between hotels and travel agencies. The new health check examines a broader cost question: what a travel business pays to collect, convert and distribute the money behind its bookings.
