KLM plans to resume flights between Amsterdam Schiphol and Tel Aviv on August 25, restoring the route after nearly six months of suspension. The Dutch carrier stopped operating the service at the end of February and formally suspended flights from March 1 following the outbreak of the Iran war.
The resumed service will not initially operate as a standard nonstop flight. KLM plans to make a short stop in Larnaca, Cyprus, where crew members will stay overnight. The arrangement allows the airline to restore passenger connections to Israel while continuing to manage crew logistics and operational risks associated with the wider regional security situation.
The Tel Aviv restart represents a limited reopening rather than a broad return to KLM’s previous Middle East schedule. Flights from Amsterdam to Dubai, Dammam, and Riyadh will remain suspended through October 24, indicating that the carrier is continuing to assess individual markets and routes separately rather than restoring the region all at once.
KLM’s sister airline Air France is also maintaining several temporary suspensions. Flights between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Dubai and Beirut are currently paused through August 18, while services between Paris and Riyadh are suspended through August 14.
For travelers, the gradual restoration highlights how European airlines are adapting their Middle East networks on a route-by-route basis as security conditions evolve. Adding an intermediate stop and changing crew arrangements can allow airlines to resume commercially important destinations while reducing operational exposure. However, schedules across the region are likely to remain more vulnerable to short-notice changes than under normal operating conditions, particularly if security assessments or airspace restrictions change.
