The Institute of Travel Management and BCD Travel have created an AI adoption blueprint to help corporate travel managers evaluate where the technology can improve their programs. The toolkit-style framework was presented at ITM’s Autumn Conference in London on October 5.
Developed through ITM’s Platinum Pathways working groups, the initiative brings travel buyers and industry specialists together around practical problems. BCD’s AI pathway has examined traveler servicing, booking, disruption management and operational efficiency, including how to identify useful applications and retain human oversight.
Governance, accuracy and accountability emerged as the main concerns in a snapshot poll of conference buyers. BCD senior director Sarah Whiting said buyers in the group were more comfortable with AI advising or recommending than with wider adoption across their travel programs. Those observations reflect the participating group, rather than a representative industry-wide survey.
BCD’s existing guidance distinguishes AI that provides information from systems that take action, emphasizing data quality, clear ownership and escalation routes. That distinction matters as travel suppliers expand AI integrations: we have covered Amadeus’ work to bring travel technology into Anthropic’s Claude tools.
Further practical materials are expected in the coming weeks, including an AI opportunity chart to help buyers identify useful, lower-risk applications. For travel teams, the framework provides a starting point for deciding which tasks to test, how to assess results and who remains responsible when technology influences a traveler’s booking or support.
