The American Society of Travel Advisors has launched a new member reporting tool aimed at identifying supplier policies and industry practices that unfairly burden travel advisors, restrict competition, or make it harder for them to serve clients. The Report a Supplier Policy or Industry Practice Concern tool allows ASTA members to submit concerns involving a single supplier, multiple companies, or a broader practice affecting an entire travel sector.
The system is intended for recurring or systemic issues rather than disputes involving an individual booking or transaction. Examples could include direct-to-consumer marketing practices, restrictive pricing policies, commission structures, and limits on advisor access to content or information. ASTA plans to use the submissions to identify patterns, engage with suppliers, issue guidance to members, and determine whether wider advocacy or collective action is needed.
The new platform builds on ASTA’s existing hotel commission recovery tool, which has helped return more than $53,000 in unpaid commissions to advisors while also identifying properties with repeated payment problems. The broader reporting system expands that model beyond hotels and individual commission disputes to cover policies across the travel marketplace.
ASTA President and CEO Zane Kerby said advisors are often the first to see where supplier systems and commercial practices are failing. By collecting those experiences in a structured format, the organization hopes to turn isolated complaints into evidence of wider industry problems.
For travel advisors, the tool provides a formal route for raising concerns that might otherwise remain limited to informal conversations between colleagues. For suppliers, it creates additional pressure to review policies that generate repeated complaints. The larger objective is to give ASTA more reliable data when negotiating with travel companies, informing members, and campaigning for a more transparent and competitive distribution environment.
