easyJet faces the possibility of cabin crew strikes in France after three unions issued a notice allowing members to take industrial action between August 7 and September 2. The SNPNC-FO, UNAC-CFE-CGC, and UNPNC-CFDT unions said individual strike dates could be announced with only 48 hours’ notice, creating potential disruption during one of the busiest periods of the summer travel season.
The unions said the action reflects deteriorating working conditions for cabin crew, pointing to unstable schedules, accumulated fatigue, and what they described as insufficient protections for employees. They argued that these concerns have not received enough attention from management and said the issues are being overshadowed by the ongoing takeover contest involving U.S. investment firms Apollo and Castlelake.
The strike notice comes ahead of annual mandatory negotiations between easyJet and the unions scheduled for September. The labor groups said they remain willing to negotiate and could withdraw the notice depending on the airline’s response. That leaves open the possibility of avoiding walkouts if the two sides make progress before specific strike dates are announced.
easyJet said it was disappointed by the decision, particularly because management had already proposed adjustments intended to address employee concerns. The airline also called on the unions to cancel the action ahead of the planned September talks, warning that potential disruption would come at an important time for customers.
For travelers and corporate travel managers, the biggest challenge is the short notice period. With unions able to announce strike dates just two days in advance, passengers using French easyJet bases or routes could face limited time to adjust itineraries. Even if strikes remain localized, schedule changes, crew availability, and knock-on aircraft disruptions could affect flights beyond France.
