Booking Holdings recorded 345 million room nights in the third quarter, up 6.7% from a year earlier. Gross bookings rose 9.6% to $54.5 billion, according to its earnings release. Flight tickets booked across the group rose 19.4%, while nights booked at alternative accommodations on Booking.com increased 7%.

Reported revenue fell 1.3% to $8.89 billion after the company recorded a $900 million revenue reduction tied to a Federal Trade Commission matter. Booking also set aside $100 million for a related loss. Excluding the revenue adjustment, the company’s adjusted revenue rose 8.7% to $9.79 billion.

As MarketSpeaker reported, adjusted earnings per share rose 17% to $4.66, while reported net income slipped about 1% to $2.72 billion. Gross bookings measure the value of travel reserved through the group’s platforms after cancellations and were unaffected by the FTC adjustment.

Booking expects room-night growth to slow to 1%–3% in the fourth quarter, with gross bookings up 2%–4%. The company said international demand softened late in Q3 while domestic travel held up. Its forecast assumes the effects of the Middle East conflict, including higher airfares, persist through year-end.

We saw a similar note of caution in Marriott’s outlook earlier this week. The hotel group expects a deeper fourth-quarter decline in Middle East revenue per available room, even as it raised its full-year global outlook for that measure.
