Key Notes

  • The management board is targeting an early-November 2026 reopening after Soi Sim stopped welcoming visitors in 2020.
  • Preparations cover legal procedures, visitor facilities and boat access to the forested island beach.
  • Soi Sim appears on Ha Long Bay’s Route 2, and travellers should confirm a landing with their cruise operator.

Soi Sim Beach in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay is preparing to welcome visitors again in early November, following a closure that began in 2020. Its planned return would add another beach stop to sightseeing cruises through the limestone islands of the World Heritage area.

The Ha Long Bay–Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board told VnExpress on October 31 that preparations were nearing completion. Procedures for forest-environment leasing, service operations and the boat landing were largely complete.

Why Soi Sim Has Been Closed Since 2020

The shutdown was linked to legal procedures for a flora and fauna conservation project on the island. The management board confirmed in June that Soi Sim remained closed while agencies reviewed the paperwork and safety conditions.

The November target follows an earlier attempt to reopen during 2026 that did not go ahead. Travellers planning a beach visit should confirm the operating date and landing arrangements with their cruise company before paying for a particular itinerary.

A Forested Island With Pale Sand and Bay Views

Soi Sim combines a sandy shoreline with wooded hills and views across the bay. Rose myrtle trees give the island its name, with purple flowers typically appearing around May. The surrounding forest supports plants native to the Ha Long area.

Vietnam’s environment ministry highlighted Soi Sim’s inclusion in the 2026 Corona Beach 100, describing it as the country’s sole representative. The selection recognises scenery and a connection with nature.

Workers have replenished sand and repaired visitor facilities ahead of the planned reopening, DTiNews reported, citing the management board and the unit managing the island’s conservation project.

How to Include Soi Sim in a Ha Long Trip

The official Route 2 itinerary lists Soi Sim alongside Ti Top Island, Sung Sot Cave and Luon Cave. Boats can depart from Tuan Chau International Passenger Port or Ha Long International Passenger Port.

Hanoi is a practical starting point, with the road journey to Ha Long taking about two and a half hours, according to Vietnam’s national tourism website. Allow extra time for the pickup location, traffic and embarkation.

Before booking, ask the operator to confirm:

  • Whether Soi Sim is open on your travel date and an island landing is included.
  • How long the beach stop lasts and which other attractions the sailing visits.
  • Which port the boat uses, whether transfers are included and what happens if the itinerary changes.
