Key Notes

  • Nox plans to launch Hamburg–Munich services on March 23, 2027, stopping in Bremen and Augsburg.
  • One-way fares start at €65, with three departures per week in each direction.
  • The launch trains offer individual Nox Suites, while fully private Nox Rooms are planned for a later rollout.

Nox Mobility has opened bookings for a new Hamburg–Munich sleeper train, bringing airline-style lie-flat suites to an overnight journey across Germany. Services are scheduled to begin on March 23, 2027, with one-way fares starting at €65.

The Berlin-based operator will also serve Bremen and Augsburg, giving travelers an alternative to spending part of the day in transit. The appeal is straightforward: board in the evening, settle into your own space and arrive at a city-center station the following morning.

Your Own Suite for the Night

The first trains will feature Nox Suites, each with an individual seating area, a table for working or eating, luggage storage and nearby power sockets. The seat extends into a two-meter lounge along the window, creating room to stretch out overnight.

On its booking website, Nox shows the suite in different configurations for working, sitting and resting. It lists space for two carry-on suitcases and two personal items, so passengers planning a longer trip should check the baggage rules before reserving.

The distinction between a suite and a room matters here. The launch product offers a personal area inspired by business-class seating; Nox’s larger, fully private rooms for one or two people belong to a later phase of the project. Travelers should choose based on the accommodation actually offered for their departure.

Evening Departures, Morning Arrivals

The service is planned to run three times a week in each direction. Hamburg departures are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, with Munich departures on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All times are local.

Southbound trains leave Hamburg Hauptbahnhof at 9:22 p.m. and reach Munich Hauptbahnhof at 8:14 a.m. the next day. The intermediate calls are Bremen at 10:30 p.m. and Augsburg at 7:35 a.m.

Northbound, the train leaves Munich at 9:20 p.m., calls at Augsburg at 9:51 p.m. and Bremen at 7:20 a.m., then reaches Hamburg at 8:27 a.m. Nox sets out these timings in its launch announcement.

That makes the trip roughly 11 hours in either direction. For a city break, the useful comparison is how much daytime travel it saves and whether the morning arrival fits your plans. An early arrival can be convenient, although it may be well before hotel check-in.

What the €65 Starting Fare Means

The advertised €65 price is a starting one-way fare, so check the total for your chosen date and direction. Anyone building an itinerary around the train should also review the ticket’s change and cancellation conditions before booking connecting transport or accommodation.

Meals deserve a separate budget check. Afar’s operator interview describes catered meals, including breakfast, available at an extra charge and served at passengers’ seats, rather than a restaurant carriage.

A night on the train may replace a hotel night for some itineraries. Whether it works out cheaper will depend on the fare available, the accommodation you would otherwise book and how comfortably you sleep while moving.

The First Route in a Bigger European Plan

Nox’s long-term vision is to connect 100 European cities by 2035. Hamburg–Munich is the first route; the broader network remains an ambition for subsequent expansion.

We recently examined Certares’ rail investment and the push for more competition in Europe. Nox adds a different proposition to that picture: using the overnight hours to move between cities while keeping the next day available for a holiday or work.

For travelers considering the launch, the next step is to compare the available suite, fare conditions and arrival time with their own itinerary. Bookings are open through Nox, with the first Hamburg departure currently listed for March 23 and the first Munich departure for March 24, 2027.
