Mercure has opened its first hotel in Oradea, expanding Accor’s presence in Romania with a €15 million property aimed at both leisure and business travelers.

Mercure Oradea has 90 rooms and operates under a franchise agreement with local investor Grand Hotel West. The property is managed by Spark Hospitality and becomes Accor’s 26th hotel in Romania.

Located in the western part of Oradea, the hotel provides relatively easy access to the historic center, Oradea Arena and several of the city’s main business and industrial districts. Its position near the Hungarian border also gives the property potential to attract cross-border visitors as Oradea continues building its profile as a regional city-break destination.

The hotel includes Classic and Privilege rooms, Junior and Executive Suites, interconnecting rooms for families and accessible accommodation. Many rooms have balconies, while selected suites feature private terraces with outdoor whirlpools. Standard amenities include high-speed Wi-Fi, Chromecast, minibars, air conditioning and individually controlled smart-room features.

Accor is positioning the property around Mercure’s locally inspired brand identity, with design elements intended to reflect Oradea’s architecture, history and cultural character rather than delivering a standardized international hotel experience.

Spa, Dining and Business Travel Are Central to the Offer

One of the hotel’s biggest features is StratumSPA, a wellness area with an indoor heated swimming pool, whirlpools, dry and steam saunas, sensory showers, fitness facilities and bookable massage and beauty treatments.

That wellness component is particularly relevant in Oradea, a city known for its thermal bathing heritage and proximity to spa destinations in western Romania.

Food and beverage operations are led by Certified Master Chef Henrik Sebok. Rei Restaurant focuses on seasonal ingredients and contemporary cooking, with both indoor and terrace seating. Rei Café offers coffee and bistro-style dishes throughout the day, while Cobalt functions as a private wine cellar for tastings, dinners and smaller events.

Mercure Oradea is also designed to capture corporate demand. Four meeting rooms offer natural light, audiovisual technology and flexible layouts, with the largest space measuring 141 square meters and accommodating up to 140 guests. Underground and outdoor parking, along with electric vehicle charging points, support both local and regional business traffic.

The opening comes as Oradea continues to reposition itself through urban regeneration, restored Art Nouveau architecture and investment in tourism infrastructure. The city has increasingly become an alternative to Romania’s more established urban destinations, particularly for travelers interested in architecture, wellness and shorter European breaks.

For Accor, the hotel adds another foothold in a Romanian market where the group is continuing to expand across both major cities and secondary destinations.

Mercure already operates more than 1,000 hotels worldwide, but the Oradea opening follows a strategy increasingly common among international hotel groups: entering smaller cities where local investment, improving infrastructure and growing visitor demand can create new hospitality opportunities.
