Disney Vacation Club has offered a first fuller glimpse of Disney Lakeshore Lodge, a new waterfront resort planned for Bay Lake at Walt Disney World Resort and projected to open in summer 2027.

The property is being positioned as a celebration of nature through Disney storytelling, with design cues drawn from classic animated films such as Bambi, Pocahontas, and Brother Bear. In a resort market where Disney continues to expand its vacation ownership footprint, Lakeshore Lodge looks designed to appeal not only to Disney loyalists but also to families looking for a more tranquil, outdoors-driven alternative within the company’s larger Orlando ecosystem.

Set along the shore of Bay Lake, the resort will lean heavily into its setting. Disney says expansive floor-to-ceiling windows will frame the surrounding landscape, bringing daylight and lake views into public spaces and guest rooms alike. During the day, the emphasis will be on native flora and fauna and the calm, more secluded side of the resort district.

At night, the location will also give guests views of Magic Kingdom fireworks, a feature that adds a familiar Disney flourish to what is otherwise being framed as a more grounded and restorative experience.

A New Disney Resort Built Around Nature and Space

The biggest headline is scale. Disney Lakeshore Lodge is expected to include 967 accommodations, ranging from studios to larger multi-bedroom villas. That makes it a substantial addition to the Disney Vacation Club portfolio and another sign that Disney still sees strong long-term demand for vacation ownership stays tied to the parks. But the company is trying to distinguish this project less through sheer size and more through design identity.

Interiors are expected to feature warm natural materials, earthy tones, and a more refined take on family-friendly comfort. The concept suggests Disney is aiming for a polished lodge atmosphere rather than an overtly character-heavy resort. That does not mean the storytelling disappears. Instead, Disney appears to be weaving its thematic references more subtly into the architecture, artwork, and overall ambiance. For many families, that may be the sweet spot: a resort that still feels unmistakably Disney without turning every corner into a visual spectacle.

This positioning matters because Disney Vacation Club resorts increasingly compete not only with one another, but also with a broader Orlando luxury and upper-upscale market. A property centered on nature, privacy, and design may broaden the appeal beyond traditional theme park visitors.

The Lake Houses Could Become the Resort’s Signature Feature

The most distinctive element revealed so far is the introduction of one- and two-bedroom Lake Houses along the waterfront. Disney is describing them as exclusive accommodations that offer enhanced privacy and a closer connection to Bay Lake. If executed well, these could become the defining feature of the project, giving Disney Vacation Club something it does not currently offer in quite the same way at this scale.

For guests, the appeal is obvious: more space, more seclusion, and a setting that feels removed from the intensity of a standard theme park stay while still remaining firmly inside Walt Disney World. For Disney, the Lake Houses could also serve as a premium product within the resort, helping the company capture higher-end demand from families and repeat Disney Vacation Club members.

There is still plenty Disney has not shared, including dining venues, recreation offerings, and the broader amenity mix. But even at this stage, the direction is clear. Disney Lakeshore Lodge is not being sold simply as another place to sleep near the parks. It is being positioned as a full resort experience built around nature, storytelling, and longer, more immersive stays.
