Key Notes

  • The Cape Town EDITION marks the brand’s first hotel opening in Africa.
  • The property occupies a waterfront site at Quay 7 with Table Mountain views.
  • Guests can combine rooftop dining and a pool with a central Cape Town stay.

EDITION has opened its first African hotel on Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, giving the luxury brand a working-harbor setting framed by Table Mountain and the Atlantic. The Cape Town EDITION’s October 27 debut turns a development we covered earlier into a new place to stay, dine and spend an evening by the water.

The hotel occupies Quay 7 beside the waterfront’s superyacht marina. Marriott’s opening announcement emphasizes a connection with the surrounding neighborhood, bringing restaurants, bars and gathering spaces into a project shaped by the site’s maritime history.

A Waterfront Hotel With a Distinctive Arrival

Neri&Hu’s design references the harbor’s warehouse buildings through pitched rooflines, textured brickwork and a long, low form. At the center, a cylindrical open-air space called The Drum contains a staircase leading to a viewing platform.

Marriott describes 142 guestrooms and suites, with locally made furnishings and African art woven into the interiors. Large windows and rooftop spaces make the outlook an important part of the proposition, although guests should confirm the view attached to their particular room category.

From Shale to the Rooftop

The dining program includes Shale, which draws on Cape ingredients and producers, and EAVE, the rooftop restaurant and bar beside the heated pool. The Lobby Bar and Punch Room provide other places to meet and linger.

For a visitor choosing between a hotel-centered break and a busy sightseeing itinerary, the range of social spaces is part of the appeal. It also creates a reason to visit without treating every waterfront evening as a trip back to the room.

Practical Details for a Stay

The hotel website lists check-in from 3 p.m. and check-out at noon, with a minimum check-in age of 18. Its address is 7 East Pier Road, V&A Waterfront, and Cape Town International Airport is listed as 20.5 kilometers away.

The property says it does not provide an airport shuttle. That makes arranging a transfer or another suitable arrival option part of the booking process, especially for a first visit with luggage.

On-site amenities include a spa, fitness center and outdoor pool. Marriott Bonvoy members can receive complimentary in-room internet when booking directly, subject to the hotel’s stated terms. Rates and room availability depend on the dates selected.

Choosing the Right Room and Location

The waterfront setting suits travelers who want dining and urban activity close to their base. Before booking, compare the room outlook, breakfast arrangements and cancellation conditions rather than assuming every rate includes the same experience.

Our gallery brings together five official opening photographs, covering the rooftop pool, exterior, guestrooms, Punch Room and The Drum. They show the hotel’s design and setting; they should be used alongside the room description when choosing an actual reservation.
