Travelport and Cognizant have expanded their partnership to embed AI more deeply in travel booking technology. The companies announced the next phase on October 27, covering product development, software engineering and operational workflows across Travelport’s business.

The initial engineering focus is TripServices, the platform behind bookings, exchanges, refunds and other servicing tasks. We covered its June launch, when Travelport introduced a single API connection for flight, hotel and ancillary content. The partnership builds on that existing infrastructure.

Travelport says the first phase of its AI transformation has established the architecture and engineering foundations needed for further development. AI tools are now being introduced for code generation, test creation and review of software changes, with the aim of delivering customer-facing improvements faster.

The work follows the companies’ May Anthropic collaboration, which set out plans to use Claude in software development and connect AI trip planning with booking systems. Cognizant teams will work with Travelport across 18 countries in the expanded program, building on a relationship spanning two decades.

For travel agencies, the longer-term goals include interpreting complex traveler requests, reducing manual itinerary work and improving disruption handling. Those are intended benefits rather than a newly available universal booking assistant. The latest announcement does not give a feature-by-feature rollout schedule or quantified customer savings.
