Lindblad Expeditions Holdings has acquired a 60% stake in both White Desert, the luxury Antarctic operator, and private aviation adventure brand Echo Charlie. The company announced the transaction on September 15, calling it the largest acquisition in its history.

The combined purchase price is approximately $61 million, plus about $6 million for cash on the balance sheet, with customary adjustments for working capital, cash and debt. Both stakes were acquired under one purchase agreement.

The deal broadens Lindblad’s reach beyond its established expedition cruise portfolio, adding access to Antarctica’s interior and journeys built around private aircraft. White Desert, founded in 2005, combines travel into remote polar areas with luxury accommodation, complementing Lindblad’s longstanding coastal expedition business.

Lindblad sees opportunities to develop White Desert’s camps, expand guest experiences and strengthen its logistical capabilities. The acquisition gives the specialist operator access to a larger travel group’s resources while preserving its distinct approach to Antarctic tourism.

Echo Charlie, formerly known as the Dr. Jones Collection, focuses on aviation-led adventures beyond Antarctica. Its itineraries use a restored DC-3 capable of landing at remote airstrips, connecting travelers with landscapes and communities outside conventional air networks. Lindblad plans to support the brand’s development and growth.

Founder Patrick Woodhead will remain chairman of White Desert and CEO of Echo Charlie. He will also become Lindblad’s strategic innovation advisor, bringing his aviation and exploration experience into the wider group.

Both businesses will retain their identities and operate as standalone offerings. For travel advisors, the acquisition expands the range of specialist journeys within Lindblad’s portfolio without merging the two brands into its ship-based product.
