Amsterdam Schiphol Airport handled 6.1 million passengers in September, a 1 percent increase compared with last year, despite a drop in total flight operations. The Dutch hub recorded 41,374 flights, down 1 percent year-on-year, while welcoming 3.9 million arrivals and departures and 2.2 million transfer passengers.
The growth comes as Schiphol prepares for a government-mandated flight cap, reducing annual movements from 500,000 to 478,000 starting with the 2025–26 winter season. The move, aimed at cutting noise pollution, will also lower night flights from 32,000 to 27,000 annually.
Schiphol has additionally scrapped plans for a 5 percent increase in airline charges set for 2026. Spain, the UK, Italy, Greece, and the U.S. ranked as the most popular destinations, with European routes making up 72 percent of total passenger traffic.
