Viking has opened bookings for its 2028-2029 World Cruise itineraries, setting out a long-range program built around extended ocean travel, cultural immersion, and multi-continent routing. The main itinerary, the 142-day Viking World Cruise, will sail aboard Viking Vesta and depart Fort Lauderdale on December 21, 2028, before ending in London on May 12, 2029.

The voyage is designed to cover six continents and 31 countries, with 62 guided tours, overnight stays in 16 cities, and opportunities to visit up to 45 UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The program underscores Viking’s continued focus on long-duration cruising at a time when premium travelers are showing sustained interest in slower, more comprehensive itineraries rather than shorter, single-region sailings.

A Global Route Built Around Destination Depth

The 142-day sailing combines major cities with smaller ports and culturally significant destinations. Guests will transit the Panama Canal, continue along the West Coast of North America, and cross the Pacific to reach Hawaii, French Polynesia, New Zealand, and Australia. The route then continues through Southeast Asia and Africa before concluding in Europe.

Overnight calls are planned in ports including Sydney, Singapore, Zanzibar, Cape Town, and Casablanca. These longer stops are a central part of the product, giving travelers more time in major destinations rather than limiting visits to standard daytime calls. For Viking, the structure fits its broader positioning around enrichment, history, and destination-led travel.

The cruise line is also offering optional multi-day overland programs for guests who want to go farther inland before rejoining the ship at a later port. These include a six-day Uluru and Great Barrier Reef excursion in Australia, a six-day India Golden Triangle program covering landmarks such as the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Jaipur, and a five-day Kruger National Park experience focused on wildlife viewing in South Africa.

Onboard programming will include lectures, cultural content, and Viking’s Resident Historian program, which is designed to add historical and regional context throughout the voyage. Included excursions in each port remain part of Viking’s value proposition, while optional experiences add more specialized access for travelers seeking deeper exploration.

Extended Voyages Add More Flexibility

Beyond the core 142-day itinerary, Viking is offering several extended world cruise options. The 170-day Viking World Voyage III continues from London through Northern Europe and Scandinavia, adding 21 ports before ending in Stockholm. For travelers starting on the West Coast, the 153-day Viking World Voyage IV will sail from Los Angeles to Stockholm and visit 37 countries.

A shorter 125-day Viking World Discoveries itinerary will also depart Los Angeles and conclude in London after visiting 27 countries. Together, the options allow Viking to target different segments of the long-cruise market, from guests seeking a full global journey to those looking for a shorter but still extensive version of the program.

The launch also comes with booking incentives for North American travelers available through May 31, 2026. These include free business class airfare and transfers, shore excursion and shipboard credits for eligible guests, a beverage package, and a reduced deposit. Viking is also offering early payment savings on select bookings.

The announcement reinforces the competitive strength of world cruises in the luxury and premium cruise sector. These voyages appeal to travelers with time, discretionary income, and a preference for structured global exploration. For Viking, the 2028-2029 program gives the company a multi-year booking runway and a visible product around which to anchor its ocean cruise growth.
