American Airlines will appoint Nick Andersen senior vice president of network planning on November 1, replacing Brian Znotins. Skift reported the change on October 15, citing an internal memo from chief commercial officer Nat Pieper, as the airline reshuffles its commercial leadership.

Znotins plans to retire at year-end after nearly seven years with American, according to Reuters, which also reviewed the memo. Andersen currently oversees commercial planning and performance and brings nearly 20 years at American and US Airways, with experience spanning pricing, operations, fleet planning and revenue management.

Andersen’s promotion also changes reporting lines. Commercial planning and performance teams will report to revenue-management vice president Scott Chandler while American considers their future structure. Pieper said Andersen’s experience offers an opportunity to align network planning more closely with flight operations and improve financial results.

American is also appointing Margaret Mueller vice president and managing partner for Chicago, overseeing local sales and business activities from November 30. Chris Kelly Singley will join from oneworld as vice president of commercial communications, advertising and sponsorships, reporting to Pieper.

The appointments come as American seeks a more profitable network and competes for higher-paying travellers. The leadership memo outlines management changes rather than a new set of passenger routes.
