Booking Holdings has launched Vayo, a new AI travel-planning company designed to organize reservations and keep working on a trip after the initial booking. The group plans to invest $100 million in the business, subject to continued product progress and market conditions.
Vayo opened its private-beta waitlist on October 14. Access is free and by invitation, with the initial release aimed at people who travel several times a year and want help managing the details. Direct booking, a native app and shared planning with travel companions are still on the roadmap.
A Trip Organizer That Starts With Your Inbox
The starting point is a traveler’s existing reservations. Vayo’s website says it turns emailed confirmations into an organized trip, identifies gaps and suggests options based on how the user travels. The traveler remains in control of the choices.
Its stated ambition extends beyond building an itinerary: it watches for price changes and openings at places that were previously unavailable. Vayo says background actions require the traveler’s approval. These are the company’s descriptions of an early product, rather than results from an independent test.
The appeal is easy to understand for anyone juggling an airline confirmation, a separate hotel reservation and dinner plans. Keeping those details together could reduce the work of checking multiple apps and email threads, especially when one part of the itinerary changes.
Bookings From Across the Travel Industry
Booking Holdings’ launch announcement says Vayo can organize reservations made through its own brands, other platforms and directly with airlines or hotels. The group owns Booking.com, Priceline, Agoda, KAYAK and OpenTable.
Vayo also says it can recommend a hotel’s own website or another booking platform when that is the better option. Its usefulness will therefore depend on how well it handles a mixed itinerary, rather than simply how many reservations a traveler has made within Booking’s own services.
What the Beta Does Not Promise
There is an important difference between monitoring a booking and guaranteeing a refund or replacement. Vayo’s terms of use say it will not cancel or rebook a reservation without explicit approval. They also describe a service that provides travel information and recommendations, with transactions governed by the relevant travel supplier’s rules.
For selected suppliers, Vayo personnel may request a fare or rate adjustment on the traveler’s behalf, but the supplier decides whether to grant it. A price alert should therefore be treated as an opportunity to check the options, not a promise that a nonrefundable booking can be changed without cost.
Inbox Access and the Next Steps
Joining the beta involves connecting an inbox; Vayo says no payment card is needed. Its privacy policy states that the service is intended for people in the United States. Travelers elsewhere should not assume that an open waitlist means a worldwide launch.
The policy also explains that third-party AI providers may process connected-account information to deliver features, under contractual limits on retention and training. Google user data is excluded from model training, while other personal information may be used for that purpose with an opt-out. Prospective users should review those distinctions before connecting an account.
Vayo adds a consumer-focused approach to the AI planning tools we have been following. Our coverage of Voyagier examined a platform built around human travel advisors. Vayo instead puts the traveler’s existing reservations at the center of the experience.
For now, the practical step is to request an invitation and assess the available features against a real itinerary. The longer-term test will be whether Vayo saves enough time after booking to become part of a traveler’s routine, while making its proposed actions clear before anything changes.
