Ryanair Moves Bag-Drop Deadline to One Hour Before Departure

Ryanair will close airport check-in and bag drop 60 minutes before departure from November 10, 2026. Here’s what the change means for travellers flying from Poland.

Ryanair will close airport check-in and bag-drop desks 60 minutes before scheduled departure from November 10, 2026, bringing the current cutoff forward by 20 minutes. The network-wide change includes flights from Poland and matters most for passengers travelling with luggage that must go into the hold.

The airline set out the policy in an April announcement. With the start date approaching, travellers planning autumn and winter trips should review their airport timing. The new deadline concerns the airport desk stage of the journey; online check-in and the requirement to reach the boarding gate on time remain separate.

How the New Bag-Drop Deadline Works

For a flight scheduled to depart at noon on or after November 10, the bag-drop cutoff will be 11am, replacing the usual 11:20am deadline. That is the latest point for completing the process, so arriving at the terminal at 11am would leave no allowance for finding the desk or joining a queue.

The wording in Ryanair’s carriage conditions refers to the scheduled departure time. Plan around that time and follow any specific instructions sent for your booking, rather than assuming that a delay displayed at the airport automatically gives you longer to check in a suitcase.

When to Arrive at the Airport

Ryanair’s existing arrival guidance recommends reaching the check-in or bag-drop desk at least two hours before departure. For the noon example, that means aiming to be at the desk by 10am. Allow additional time before that for the journey to the airport, parking or moving from a station to the terminal.

Dropping the bag is only one step. Security, any required passport checks and the walk to the gate still come afterwards. Ryanair’s gate guidance says boarding gates close 30 minutes before departure, which would make 11:30am the gate deadline for that same noon flight.

These are separate milestones to put in a travel plan. The one-hour bag-drop cutoff should not become the target arrival time, particularly when travelling with children or several suitcases. Check the departure airport’s current advice and allow for queues when choosing a train, bus or airport transfer.

What Changes for Cabin-Bag Passengers?

Passengers who check in online and travel without hold luggage do not need to use bag drop, so the earlier baggage deadline does not change that part of their journey. They can continue to security after arrival, subject to any document checks required for their booking, and must still reach the gate before it closes.

Online check-in remains a separate task. The airline’s check-in guidance gives a two-hour pre-departure cutoff for checking in online. For passengers receiving a randomly allocated seat, that process opens 24 hours before the flight. Complete it before travelling to the airport and check that the boarding pass is available.

Travellers who receive a restricted boarding pass or an instruction to have documents checked should follow the app’s directions. Having only cabin luggage does not remove an airport document-check requirement when one applies, so resolve that step before proceeding to security.

Why Ryanair Wants More Time After Bag Drop

Ryanair says the earlier desk closure is intended to give passengers more time to clear security and passport-control queues. The airline presents it as a way to reduce missed departures among travellers delayed inside the terminal.

The change is being introduced alongside a self-service bag-drop rollout. In its announcement, Ryanair said it aimed to have kiosks at more than 95% of its airports by October, integrated with its app for baggage check-in and tag printing. That was a rollout target, rather than confirmation that every departure airport already offers the equipment.

For a trip from Poland, review the flight date, whether the booking includes checked luggage and the airport’s instructions before setting off. Build the earlier bag-drop deadline into the journey to the terminal, while keeping time for the checks and boarding that follow.
