Situ Expands International Operations to APAC

Avanti Destinations is adding a new layer to its European portfolio with the launch of Insider Tours, a collection of small-group walking experiences designed for travelers who want something more personal than a standard large-group excursion but more affordable than a private guide. The new product covers eight major European cities – London, Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Barcelona, Dublin, and Edinburgh – and will run twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays between May and October.

The format is clearly aimed at the FIT market, where travelers want flexibility, local expertise, and experiences that feel curated rather than mass-produced. Each tour is limited to one to eight participants, lasts between two and three hours, and is guaranteed to depart even if only one traveler books. That last point is especially notable in a market where small-group products often depend on minimum numbers and can leave late-booking travelers with fewer dependable options.

Pricing ranges from $60 to $140 per person, positioning the tours in a middle ground that could appeal to travelers who want guided context without committing to the higher cost of a private experience. Avanti is also emphasizing the local angle, with expert guides leading each tour and shaping the experience around the character of the destination rather than offering a generic checklist-style walk.

A Stronger Play for Personalized City Touring

The city lineup gives a good sense of where Avanti sees demand. These are established European gateways where many travelers already build custom itineraries, and where a short guided walk can work well on arrival day or as a first introduction to the destination.

In Florence, for example, the tour focuses on the historic core, including Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, and Giotto’s bell tower, with an added tasting component featuring cheese, cold cuts, and Chianti. In Barcelona, the route moves through the Gothic Quarter, taking in landmark squares and major religious and civic sites. Venice takes a different angle with a Murano-focused experience built around glassmaking heritage rather than the usual central Venice circuit.

That variety matters. Travelers increasingly want city tours that do more than cover familiar sights. A stronger theme, whether it is monarchy in London, food and architecture in Florence, or artisanship in Murano, gives these products more value and makes them easier to integrate into a broader custom trip.

Avanti is also supporting the launch with a limited-time buy one, get one free promotion, available through May 31, though peak-season availability is expected to be tight. That promotional push suggests the company sees these tours not as a side product, but as a meaningful sales driver for summer Europe bookings.

More broadly, Insider Tours fit neatly into a larger travel pattern. Travelers still want the iconic European capitals and classics, but they increasingly want to experience them in smaller, more manageable formats. Avanti’s new program is built around exactly that demand: compact groups, guaranteed departures, and city introductions that feel more local, more flexible, and easier to fold into a customized itinerary.

LOT Polish Airlines is expanding its European network with four new routes that give travelers in southern Poland more direct access to some of the continent’s most in-demand city destinations. The carrier has launched new year-round flights from Krakow to Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid, while also adding a new connection between Warsaw and Bologna. Together, the additions signal a broader push to deepen LOT’s presence beyond Warsaw and strengthen Krakow’s role as a larger regional base.

The timing matters. European carriers are increasingly competing not just on network size, but on how well they connect secondary hubs to major leisure and business markets. For Krakow, that means better links to cities that serve both weekend travelers and corporate passengers.

Rome remains one of the strongest year-round destinations in Europe, Barcelona blends tourism with business demand, and Madrid adds a major Iberian gateway that had clear appeal for both outbound and inbound traffic. Bologna, meanwhile, gives LOT a foothold in another important northern Italian market and marks the airline’s debut at that airport.

A Bigger Role for Krakow in LOT’s Network

LOT says the new Krakow routes launched on March 30 and are part of its permanent year-round network rather than a short seasonal experiment. Rome will operate up to five times a week during the summer and up to four times weekly in winter. Barcelona will run four times a week throughout the year, while Madrid will see up to six weekly flights year-round. The Warsaw-Bologna route began a day later and will operate six times a week.

That is a meaningful step up for Krakow Airport, which is increasingly being positioned as more than a feeder point into Warsaw. LOT is expanding its summer 2026 schedule from Krakow to as many as 11 destinations and supporting that growth with an additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. Airport leadership has also pointed to a sharp rise in LOT’s activity there, with stronger domestic, European, and even long-haul connectivity helping raise the airport’s profile.

For travelers, the appeal is straightforward. More direct flights reduce dependence on connecting itineraries and make short European trips much easier to plan. For the region, the benefits are wider. Better air access tends to support tourism, trade, and business ties, especially when routes connect to large capital cities and established cultural centers. Rome, Barcelona, and Madrid are obvious draws for leisure passengers, but they are also major economic and conference destinations.

LOT is also leaning into product messaging, highlighting that carry-on baggage is included in the fare and that the Boeing 737 MAX 8 cabins feature updated interiors. That alone will not define the success of the routes, but it helps frame the expansion as part of a larger effort to make Krakow a stronger and more visible part of the airline’s network.

Ben Gurion Airport has reopened to full operations after weeks of severe disruption caused by the war with Iran, giving Israel’s travel market its clearest sign yet that regular aviation activity can resume.

Terminals, duty-free shops, and airport services are returning, and Israeli airlines are rebuilding schedules from Tel Aviv as quickly as they can. But for travelers, the reopening of the airport is not the same as a return to normal. The bigger immediate issue is that fares are rising again just as spring and summer demand begins to accelerate.

The reason is straightforward. Capacity remains too limited. Israeli carriers are expanding frequencies and putting more seats on sale, but they are still operating in a market where many foreign airlines are not yet ready to come back.

That leaves local airlines carrying more of the burden at a time when travelers who postponed trips for weeks are suddenly trying to rebook holidays, family visits, and summer travel. The result is the familiar equation that has shaped much of Israel’s recent air market: high demand, low competition, and sharply elevated prices.

Reopening the Airport Does Not Reopen the Market

Israeli airlines such as El Al, Arkia, and Israir are all working to restore broader schedules, and the airport authority has been preparing for a larger passenger flow. But foreign carrier capacity remains the missing piece. The return is expected to be gradual, not immediate, because airlines still need regulatory clearance, aircraft reallocation, crew planning, and confidence that the ceasefire will hold. That means the airport can be open while the market remains structurally constrained.

Some movement is beginning. Wizz Air has signaled a phased return later in April, which matters because the airline was expected to play a major role in restoring low-cost competition. But several larger international airlines are still staying away for longer. British Airways is not due back until July on a reduced schedule, while United is still pushing its Tel Aviv return into September. Regional aviation warnings are also reinforcing the wait-and-see mood among European operators.

Why Prices Are Climbing So Fast Again

This is why fares are moving up so quickly. Travel demand did not disappear during the shutdown period. It was delayed. Now that flights are available again, that demand is returning all at once, especially for summer routes to nearby leisure markets and for long-haul trips that were canceled during the war period. Without enough foreign carriers in the market, Israeli airlines have more pricing power and less pressure to moderate fares.

Fuel is also part of the story. The Iran war drove up global oil and jet fuel costs, and those higher input prices are feeding into already constrained ticket markets. That creates a double squeeze: fewer seats and more expensive operating conditions. For passengers, that means the reopening of Ben Gurion may improve access, but not affordability.

The likely path from here is gradual normalization rather than a sudden reset. European carriers may return first, while transatlantic service could take longer to rebuild. Until that happens, Ben Gurion’s reopening is best understood as the first step in recovery, not the end of disruption. The airport is functioning again. The market around it is still far from settled.
