Lufthansa has confirmed plans for a significant cabin refresh across its fleet of Airbus A380 aircraft, introducing a new generation of business class seats aimed at improving comfort and privacy on long-haul routes. The airline’s eight A380s, all currently based at Munich Airport, will begin receiving the upgrades this month, with the first refitted aircraft entering passenger service in April.
The new business class seats are manufactured by Thompson and feature a seat width of 58 centimeters and a fully flat bed measuring at least two meters in length. All seats will offer direct aisle access, along with Bluetooth connectivity and adjustable partitions designed to provide greater privacy for travelers. Lufthansa says the upgrade reflects its commitment to delivering a premium experience on one of the most popular long-haul aircraft in its fleet.
Each refurbished Airbus A380 will be equipped with 68 new business class seats, alongside first class, premium economy and economy cabins. Lufthansa expects all eight A380s to be fully retrofitted by mid-2027. The aircraft type remains the largest in the airline’s fleet and plays a key role in serving high-demand intercontinental routes.
The A380 upgrade complements Lufthansa’s broader premium cabin strategy, which includes the rollout of its Allegris cabin concept. Allegris was first introduced on Airbus A350 aircraft from Munich in 2024 and later expanded to Boeing 787-9 services departing from Frankfurt.
