HBO has officially confirmed that France will serve as the setting for Season 4 of The White Lotus, marking the hit series’ much-anticipated return to Europe.

The announcement came from HBO and HBO Max chairman and CEO Casey Bloys, who revealed during a programming presentation in New York that creator Mike White is already writing the new season’s storyline. While casting is still in early stages, the confirmation alone has ignited strong buzz – both among fans and in the travel industry.

White has hinted for months that he wanted to move away from the beach-resort settings featured in Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand. He also previously suggested that Paris felt too obvious, sparking speculation about whether the season might instead take place in the south of France or another visually distinct region.

Actress Parker Posey fueled the rumors during the 2025 Emmys when she mentioned White was in the south of France, later prompting Bloys to jokingly confirm her remark. Still, HBO maintains that specific filming locations remain under consideration as White refines his ideas.

What remains consistent is the show’s distinctive blend of satire, tension, and cultural observation – all set against striking international backdrops. Producers say Season 4 will once again explore themes relevant to modern society, offering a new perspective that departs from the coastal environments of previous installments.

Each season has helped fuel the global set-jetting trend, with tourism rising in locations featured on the show. With France already the world’s most visited country, its selection is likely to elevate this trend even further.

Fans and travelers are especially curious about which region of France will ultimately host the storyline. From glamorous Mediterranean coastlines to vineyard-lined countryside and historic provincial towns, nearly every part of the country offers cinematic potential.

No matter where production lands, the show’s presence is poised to spark renewed interest in French travel – much like Season 2 boosted trips to Sicily and Season 3 drew audiences to Thailand.

This announcement also connects naturally to recent coverage about potential filming spots and hotel properties linked to the series’ next chapter. Earlier this year, we explored possible Season 4 locations and highlighted luxury hotels in France that were rumored contenders for production, giving fans an early look at destinations that could soon appear on screen.
