In a one-of-a-kind blend of nostalgia and experiential travel, Airbnb has announced a partnership with Paramount Pictures and IMPS to launch a Smurf Village Experience in Belgium. Timed to coincide with the release of the new Smurfs animated film, the activation offers fans the chance to explore a life-size mushroom house and immerse themselves in the world of the beloved blue characters.

The mushroom-shaped home, nestled in the lush forests near Brussels, is now part of Airbnb’s growing collection of pop-culture stays – offering guests a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live like a Smurf. Available for booking as an Airbnb Experience, the stay is offered for free on select dates for a limited number of guests worldwide.

“We’re so excited to bring the Smurfs back to the Belgian countryside – the place that inspired Peyo all those years ago – as part of our completely reimagined Experiences,” said Clement Eulry, General Manager of France and Benelux at Airbnb. “The experience is a unique way to showcase Belgium’s beauty at a time when families are looking to unplug and connect with nature.”

Bringing Childhood Dreams to Life

Created in collaboration with Belgian artist Peyo’s estate, the house features Smurf-blue interiors, oversized mushrooms, and forest-themed furnishings. Guests will even receive Smurf-themed activities like scavenger hunts, crafts, and themed snacks. The experience celebrates the Smurfs’ enduring popularity as they return to the big screen in 2025.

The initiative follows Airbnb’s broader strategy of launching unique, movie-inspired listings that generate buzz while pushing the boundaries of what hospitality can be. “With over 80 percent of family travelers choosing destinations based on an experience offered there, Airbnb makes it easy to explore hidden gems —whether living like a Smurf in the Belgian woods, or embracing unique and local experiences,” Eulry added.

Nicolas Tytgat, an Airbnb host and grandson of the Smurfs’ creator, shared his personal connection: “I grew up surrounded by the magic of the Smurfs, so to bring fans to Belgium, the birthplace of the Smurfs, and into the world that my Grandad created, is something truly special. This is a one-of-a-kind experience and I cannot wait to share this moment and our family stories with Airbnb guests.”

How to Book the Smurf House

The Smurf Village Experience will open for booking on July 25, 2025, and will be available on select dates in August. Only a few lucky guests will be able to reserve a spot, with availability announced directly on Airbnb’s site.

Transportation is not included, but guests will receive exclusive Smurf swag and behind-the-scenes content tied to the film. Irene Trachtenberg, SVP Global Marketing Partnerships at Paramount Pictures, emphasized the spirit behind the collaboration: “We’re thrilled to bring the blue magic of the Smurfs from the big screen to life in this incredible partnership with Airbnb.”

He continued: “The Smurfs are all about celebrating each individual’s uniqueness, blue positivity with a dash of mischief, and we can’t wait for audiences around the world to join us on a Smurf-tastic adventure from the Mushroom House to cinemas this summer!”

Whether you’re a longtime fan or introducing the next generation to the blue crew, this experience offers a whimsical way to celebrate the Smurfs’ cultural legacy.
