Silversea Cruises has pushed back the opening of The Cormorant at 55 South, its new hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, to October 2026.

Originally scheduled for a January debut to support the upcoming Antarctica cruise season, the property is designed for guests booking Silversea’s fly-cruise packages and serves as a rest-and-recharge base before embarking toward the White Continent.

The cruise line said the decision reflects its goal of ensuring every aspect of the hotel aligns with its established luxury standards.

Located at the southern tip of South America, Puerto Williams presents unique construction challenges. Silversea president Bert Hernandez previously described the region as a difficult environment for building, prompting the company to fabricate the hotel’s modular rooms in Argentina before shipping them to Chile. The final phase of work is underway as Silversea completes finishing touches.

Once open, The Cormorant at 55 South will offer amenities and excursions tailored to expedition travelers, including guided hikes and birdwatching experiences. The delay means the property will now be ready ahead of the 2026–27 Antarctica season, reinforcing Silversea’s investment in enhancing the pre-cruise journey for expedition guests.
