Sandals Resorts International has announced plans to reopen five of its Jamaica resorts on December 6, marking a major step in the island’s recovery from Hurricane Melissa. The properties set to resume operations include Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Ocho Rios, Sandals Royal Plantation, Sandals Negril, and Beaches Negril.
According to the company, the early December reopening “ensures team members have the time to recharge and care for their families and communities before returning to work.” Meanwhile, Sandals’ three other Jamaica resorts – Sandals Montego Bay, Sandals South Coast, and Sandals Royal Caribbean – are slated to reopen on May 30, following more extensive repairs in areas more heavily affected by the storm.
The December reopenings come ahead of Jamaica’s nationwide tourism restart target of December 15, set by Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett. Sandals Executive Chairman Adam Stewart is serving on the island’s Hurricane Melissa Recovery Task Force, coordinating efforts to restore full operations and assist impacted travelers.
