Southwest Airlines is expanding its Hawaii service with two new routes from Southern California launching next summer.
Daily flights from Ontario International Airport to Honolulu begin on June 4, followed by peak-day service from Burbank starting August 4.
The carrier will go head-to-head with Alaska Airlines on both routes as competition intensifies for Hawaii-bound travelers.
The expansion comes as Southwest continues broadening its West Coast footprint. The airline will also introduce new flights from San Diego to Santa Barbara, along with Long Beach service to Seattle and Portland starting August 4.
The San Diego–Santa Barbara route will run on peak travel days and compete with Alaska Airlines, while the Long Beach routes will operate six days per week with Southwest as the sole carrier.
The new additions accompany Southwest’s latest schedule extension, which now allows bookings into September 2026. The strengthened mix of Hawaii and coastal routes highlights the airline’s strategy to capitalize on high-demand leisure markets heading into next summer.
