A new global report from Polarsteps highlights a major shift in UK travel behavior, with Brits embracing what the platform calls the “social flex” holiday.

Based on millions of trips logged by over 18 million users, the findings point to fast-paced itineraries, more public trip-sharing, and a rise in adventurous long-haul travel. While the average UK trip has shortened from 22 to 19 days, the distance covered has barely changed, indicating a preference for packing more destinations and experiences into less time.

British travelers are also the most public about their journeys, with 44 percent sharing trips openly – far above France, Germany, or the Netherlands. Social platforms heavily influence younger travelers, and 85 percent of under-18s say they are inspired to travel after viewing others’ content.

At the same time, Brits lead globally in the adoption of AI travel planning, with 23 percent using AI tools, surpassing other major European markets.

The report notes a rising appetite for discovery-driven travel. Traditional favorites like France and Spain remain popular, but destinations such as Sri Lanka, Ecuador, and Japan are surging, with Japan ranking as the UK’s top dream destination for 2026.

Polarsteps positions its platform as an antidote to overly curated or AI-generated itineraries, emphasizing authentic storytelling and responsible exploration. The full Year in Travel 2025 report is available upon request.
