Air France-KLM has completed the acquisition of a 2.3 percent minority stake in Canadian carrier WestJet, marking a new step in the two airlines’ long-standing collaboration. The shares were purchased from Delta Air Lines, a joint venture partner, following an agreement first announced in May.

The partnership between Air France-KLM and WestJet dates back to 2009, encompassing codeshare agreements and reciprocal loyalty benefits for frequent flyers. WestJet CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech described the deal as a milestone in the airline’s partnerships, signaling confidence in WestJet’s performance and long-term strategy.

This move follows Air France-KLM’s broader expansion efforts, including plans to acquire a majority stake in Scandinavian carrier SAS by 2026, underscoring its ongoing commitment to global network growth and cooperation.
