American Airlines will launch its first Airbus A321XLR transatlantic flight on March 8, connecting New York (JFK) with Edinburgh, Scotland on a seasonal schedule. The new aircraft, featuring a range of 4,700 nautical miles, extends the airline’s reach to long-haul destinations previously limited to widebody jets.

American is the first U.S. carrier to take delivery of the A321XLR. Before crossing the Atlantic, the aircraft will enter domestic service on December 18, flying between JFK and Los Angeles. On the Edinburgh route, it will offer 20 Flagship Suite business seats, 20 premium economy, and 123 main cabin seats.

The A321XLR opens new possibilities for efficient long-range narrowbody operations, complementing American’s existing widebody fleet. The airline has ordered 50 aircraft, reflecting confidence in the model’s role for transatlantic and high-demand domestic routes.
