Wizz Air introduces a new digital cabin ecosystem with Bluetooth in-seat ordering and connectivity trials across its fleet.
Wizz Air, the fastest growing European airline, has launched a new digital cabin ecosystem in partnership with Immfly and gateretail, bringing onboard retail, passenger and crew connectivity and operational data into a single integrated platform.
The initiative marks another step forward in Wizz Air’s digital strategy, underlining the airline’s position as one of aviation’s most innovative airlines. The collaboration will enable the airline to deliver a more efficient and engaging experience for passengers, while introducing limited connectivity.
The programme combines a fleetwide rollout of Bluetooth-enabled in-seat ordering with a limited six month connectivity trial in the UK to support new services such as wireless inflight entertainment purchases and inflight messaging services, as the airline continues to invest in scalable digital infrastructure. This will support growth, improve the customer experience and ultimately enhance operational performance.
Bluetooth in-seat ordering across the fleet
Following extensive testing, Wizz Air has deployed Bluetooth enabled in-seat ordering across its fleet of more than 260 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. Passengers who download the Wizz Air mobile app before travelling can browse and purchase food, beverages and boutique products directly from their own devices, even without internet access. Orders are transmitted via Bluetooth to the cabin crew, helping reduce wait times, improve order accuracy, and streamline onboard service, giving passengers the opportunity to receive their order even before trolley service begins.
The system is powered by Immfly’s unified retail and cabin‑digitalisation ecosystem, and integrated with gateretail’s inflight retail platform, supporting stronger ancillary performance while improving crew sales efficiency.
Connectivity Proof of Concept in the UK
Wizz Air is also launching a six-month Proof of Concept trial across five UK– based aircraft as it evaluates connectivity solutions (powered by Immfly’s Equilux server and Iridium’s global satellite network).
The trial will enable a new range of onboard services, including:
Enhanced operational efficiencies
Beyond passenger services, the programme also includes cockpit application integration, enabling real time data sharing and decision support tools, to improve route planning and fuel optimisation. Subject to successful test results, the solution may be expanded to additional aircraft.
Ian Malin, Chief Commercial Officer at Wizz Air, said: “This launch is about rethinking what the onboard experience looks like in a low-cost environment. We are investing in smart, scalable technology that gives customers more control and more choice, from ordering at their seat to staying connected in the air. At the same time, it helps our crews deliver a faster, more seamless service. We are constantly exploring smarter ways to operate our fleet and deliver more for our customers, and this is a clear example of that approach in action.”
Fernando Guinea, President of Immfly, said: “This partnership marks a major step forward in bringing the digital cabin to life. With Immfly’s unified digital ecosystem at the core — combining retail, connectivity, and operational data — we’re enabling Wizz Air to elevate every aspect of the onboard experience. From Bluetooth in-seat ordering to real-time operational insights, this programme demonstrates how Immfly’s technology drives stronger engagement, higher retail performance, and meaningful operational and commercial efficiencies across the airline.”
Jose Lirio, VP at gateretail, said: “In-seat ordering by Bluetooth represents an important breakthrough for both passengers and airline partners. It gives passengers a more seamless way to shop the onboard offer, while giving crew real-time visibility to support efficient fulfilment. Backed by gateretail’s expertise in passenger behaviour and retail technology, it is designed to strengthen engagement and unlock greater revenue potential.”
This collaboration is the latest innovation from Wizz Air, following the launch of Wizz Link, and Wizz Class earlier this year, further demonstrating the airline’s commitment to innovation and evolving the customer proposition, as it continues its rapid growth.
