KLM has suspended multiple flights to destinations in the Middle East as tensions and security concerns continue to affect aviation operations across the region. The Dutch airline confirmed that services to Dubai have been cancelled through March 28, while flights to Riyadh and Dammam have also been suspended through March 12 as the situation remains unstable.
The airline said the decision was made due to ongoing unrest in the Middle East and concerns about airspace safety. KLM stated that protecting passengers and crew remains its highest priority, and that flight operations will only resume once conditions are considered safe for civil aviation.
Passengers affected by the cancellations are being contacted directly and offered the option to rebook their travel free of charge or request a refund. The airline said it understands the disruptions may have a significant impact on travel plans and is working to keep customers informed as the situation develops.
Repatriation Flights and Travel Support
In addition to suspending regular flights, KLM has been coordinating with the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist travelers stranded in the region. Several repatriation flights have already been organized in recent days to bring Dutch travelers back to the Netherlands.
One recent flight operated from Muscat in Oman via Cairo to Amsterdam, carrying stranded passengers and airline staff. These operations are being conducted under exceptional circumstances and depend on security conditions in the region. The airline said repatriation efforts are coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which determines which travelers are eligible to board the available flights.
Some planned repatriation flights have also been postponed or cancelled due to security concerns. For example, a scheduled flight from Muscat to Amsterdam had to be delayed because of the evolving safety situation. Airlines and government authorities continue to evaluate whether additional evacuation flights may be needed.
KLM said it is closely monitoring developments and remains ready to assist if further repatriation flights are requested by government authorities.
For now, the airline has not announced a firm timeline for resuming regular services to affected destinations. The company said decisions will depend on security assessments and guidance from aviation authorities. As conditions evolve, KLM plans to provide updated travel information and notify passengers directly about any changes to flight schedules.
The situation highlights how geopolitical tensions can quickly disrupt international aviation networks, forcing airlines to suspend services and make rapid operational adjustments to protect passengers and crew.
